Thanks for your swift reply!
I can indeed sew as I study costume design and construction at university. I quite like bolstering out my wardrobe with handmade items (I'm now also attempting to knit). I do prefer vintage but the odd bit of reproduction has creeped in!
Thank you for the boost of...
I may have gone as far as reading all 20 pages of this thread...perhaps you ladies can help me with my dilemma.
I adore the 1940s and strive to live my life according to many rationing principles. I have long had a fascination with the strong women WWII bred and am inspired to be even half as...
Thank you, ladies. I think I really needed to see everyone with their nans. My great grandmother just died a few months ago and reading this post allowed me to have a good cry about it all. It sounds silly, but I think I needed it.
Here's a photo of my Oma on her nurse's pass from WWII. It was...
After a brief stint at the jewellers for resizing I am proud to present my 1950s engagement ring in all its glory! I can't believe that someone wants to marry this nutcase of a woman!
My absolute favourite part of the ring is actually the side view and the way the stone has been set. I can't...
May have gone ahead and ordered the re-printed edition on amazon! Perhaps I'm not a teenager anymore but god knows I may need help in the likeability section ;)
Any advice from you ladies on how to alter an invisible zip in a pattern to a lapped zipper? I much prefer them but am not quite sure whether to account for more fabric etc?
Oh my goodness, my mister proposed today with this gorgeous 1950s engagement ring! I'm over the moon with happiness.
Better photos to follow post re-done nails!
Thank you so much, everybody, it has been so nice to hear your words of wisdom. After a pretty awful, unprofessional reaction from my PR course leader today when I gave her a heads up about my potential decision my mind has mostly been made up. Costume here I come?
Hello ladies and gentlemen!
I have a bit of an educational dilemma going on in my mind and thought asking you lovely people for advice would be helpful as we share many of the same passions.
The past year I have been studying Public Relations and while it's a great degree, I am excellent...
I find that as long as I make sure my waist is clearly visible I look okay- even in ankle length skirts. Maybe I've gotten used to a more 40s silhouette now, because I swear it used to bother me!
Oh dear, this could be interesting. I'm going to do it in order of applications.

I'm in such a serious sewing rut at the moment! Ant advice? I think I attempted to tackle a far too difficult project and it took the joy out of it for me, so now even looking at my sewing machine makes me feel like a bit of a failure.
Thank you for the advise, gentlemen!
I am based around Bournemouth, but am originally from Germany so perhaps we'll have a poke around next time we visit my parents.
Hello gentlemen!
My boyfriend has been desperate for a chic hat (something in the vein of a Fedora) lately, but since he has a rather small head and slim face everything seems a bit overpowering and large. Any advice?
I really liked Super Kawaii Mama's post on the cultural myth of "age appropriate" behaviour and clothes. :) http://www.superkawaiimama.com.au/2014/02/21/cultural-myth-age-appropriate/
