Ohhhh yes. "Wait, this one's a little wonky...hey, these are going to start fraying after one wash!" lol I'll go through a whole rack of identical styles to get the one with the nicest details.
I knew someone like that in one of my apparel design/production classes; she had extensive experience in dressmaking, IIRC, but her natural ability to make a pattern and carry it through to completion was amazing.
I wear gas permeable contact lenses, so I don't know whether I could pull off colored contacts. But my current contacts have a slight tint to them. I like the way they make my eyes just a little darker and more vibrant. Sometimes, though, I'd like to just have my natural eye color, with all...
I think that was You Can't Take It With You. A very fun movie. :)
IMHO, guests who arrive too early get to help set up. :D I think it's perfectly fine for guests to come anywhere from 5-20 minutes after the start time, as long as it's not a rigidly scheduled evening.
I think I have that article too. They used blue painter's tape, right? IIRC, they *did* actually stick the tape to the garment. Obviously not a Good Thing for delicate/vintage garments!
I've copied garments before using the pin-and-paper method, but it gets tricky when things like gathers...
*cracks up* lol
Actually, there are some =tags&includes[]=title"]creative =tags&includes[]=title"]things =tags&includes[]=title"]being done with old floppy disks.
ChanteuseCarey, that's a beautiful - and very elegant - dress! :)
I think elegance, then as now, can be difficult to achieve. On the whole, they may have been more polite and well-dressed back then (such as wearing appropriately dressy clothes for occasions), but there were plenty of...
Ugh. Why on earth would someone be so nasty out of the blue? Judging by his comments, you can probably figure that the nastier the insult, the nicer you look. :)
Only twice? ;)
I'm known to the JoAnn's ladies too. lol I don't really wear enough of a vintage look to be the "vintage girl", but they have commented on how dressed up I look. And every so often they'll point out that they recognize my skirt fabric. :D
I've been using Revlon's "Wine With Everything", which is a not-too-dark shade of wine red. I layer it over a nude lipliner for staying power, as it's creamy.
More often, though, I wear Neutrogena's "Ruby Bliss". It's a sheer, moisturizing lipstick. Not really a bright vintage red, but I...
Whenever someone mentions white summer suits, I'm reminded of an excerpt from a 1942 book on writing (Characters Make Your Story by Maren Elwood):
"Suppose you see a man coming toward you on the street. He wears an oyster-white sport coat, complete with belt and gathers in the back, and...
Dritz still makes belting; I found some in a local non-chain fabric store, but only in one width, which I had to cut down. So it *is* out there...somewhere...
Wait for the sales, and/or clip coupons from the newspaper. Drugstores send out weekly circulars, and the newspaper usually has both the circulars and manufacturer coupons.
I hate paying full price for makeup too, because it's a gamble. I don't want to pay $8-20 to experiment with a new...
