Well, my nails are unpolished (clear polish, when I get around to it), so my lips better not match my nails! lol
I try to go with complementary colors instead of exact matches, myself. And I generally stick with one handbag...so matching shoes & bag exactly is out of the question!
Yes, I...
I'm sure it varied greatly, depending on the owner's personality and budget, just like today. Family photos have always been popular. I bet *painted* family portraits, for those who could afford them, would've been on display. Landscapes, or reproductions of famous paintings, are pretty...
Not strictly vintage, but vintage-y Mary Janes from Naturalizer:
Only $40 on the site now! I have a pair in black leather and love them. Somebody go buy them, because I can't get one in every color! lol
I wouldn't know. I watched a grand sum of 2 movies this year: Prince Caspian and Indiana Jones. And the last time I cared about the Oscars was when Return of the King won. :D
Heath Ledger will probably get Best Supporting Actor. The Duchess for costumes, most likely. They're pretty, it's...
Poor Veronica Lake, with her final acting role in "Flesh Feast", takes the cake for me. It was supposed to be about a mad doctor trying to revive Hitler's body (or so I've heard - I'm not daring to watch it!). Come to think of it, that was made in the '70s too. Hmmm...
Do you mean this one? It says "Quick to Make" on it (sorry, it's just a picture from the Vintage Pattern Wiki, not one for sale!):

Now see, those are cute. Like a sensible vintage oxford *should* be. I could even stand for a slightly daintier heel, myself, but these are a nice balance between practical and pretty.
No. Too clunky to be feminine (though for masculine shoes, they're decently streamlined). The heels are wide and broad, the sole extends beyond the shoe itself, and the style gives the effect of a straight and boxy foot, instead of a small and shapely one. The only possibility might be the...
I find this one amusing, given all the brouhaha some time ago over Macy's carrying jackets made with Chinese "raccoon dog" fur, but labeled as something else. This ad doesn't bat an eyelash over it!
Thanks for posting all these, Lady Day! Great stuff.
If the interior weren't quite so spic-and-span, I'd be tempted to say the owners were lying. But as it is, I have only one question: why on earth would anyone live in a basement when they had that right above them?! They'd better have a really good explanation...
ETA: On further appraisal...
I like very sleek, modern-looking phones, but something fancier would also be nice. Something like a thin rectangular compact case, engraved or enameled with elegant designs.
You could probably get it custom-done, come to think of it - but you'd pay an arm and a leg.
Try one of the main 4 pattern companies' sites: Butterick, McCall, Vogue, and Simplicity. Maxi dresses are supposed to be back in style, so they'd probably have patterns out (or will, once the Spring pattern collections come out).
If you want the real thing from the '70s, try Ebay or Etsy.
Currently reading/browsing The Case of the Real Perry Mason, a biography of Erle Stanley Gardner, by Dorothy Hughes. And interspersing it with lots of Gardner mysteries. :)
