I have a relative who thinks he would not look good in a classic Fedora. I thought the same thing at first too, but I now wear one regularly.
I'm asking if somebody with the graphics ability could "shop" a hat on his pic for me so I could show him. Somebody in FL did that with a picture of...
Got a pole lamp and a print of a 1920s era train depot at the main Goodwill in Seattle today. The shade I already had on another lamp but decided to put it on this one, at least for now. The lamp has a heavy cast iron base with a metal cover.
Found this print at a local Goodwill today. A little yellowed, but I liked the scene well enough to get it anyway. I'm guessing the scene is 1920s because of the raccoon coat, the cars, and that straw hat the guy on the far left is wearing. I forget what that particular style of hat is...
Captain Bligh's Portable Nightmare by John Toohey. It's about the open boat voyage Bligh and others made after the mutiny. A little difficult to read because the author's style is sometimes hard to follow, but the overall picture is very interesting, particularly the prologue which described...
Awesome pics! And that's exactly the sound I'm looking for, the kind that will make me feel like I stepped back in time. I wasn't brave (or patient) enough to try to rebuild mine. Like you, I bought mine needing repairs, and thus it was priced within my budget. I found a local repair man who...
Show us your Victrolas and other wind-up phonographs.
I recently acquired one and am in the process of learning about these. Rather than go off-subject in the Yard/Thrift Store Finds thread, I thought I would break it off and bring it over here.

I thoroughly enjoyed that movie as a kid when it first came out. I didn't realize at the time that Robert Mitchum also sang the theme song. I think I'll put it in my Netflix que, worth another watch.
(Sigh). There's something about women of that generation that always struck me as being very attractive in a wholesome and healthy way, even if some of them weren't particularly pretty.
Correct, they're pretty much single use, one or two plays. I can't find the website where I learned this, but what happens is after two plays the needle becomes a lathe and starts carving out the grooves in the record, damaging it badly and making it sound distorted.
My latest addition to my collection was a CL find. It had basic functionality, but needed some work. The cabinet is in good condition. The guts are in the shop being overhauled.
Good question.
