You did a good job, and I learned something. I thought a good cleaning would mean dismantling it, something that seemed like a nightmare with all those little parts. I'm in the market for one similar to yours, 30s-era, functioning, preferably a portable because I have limited space. I've been...

    Anybody Else Collect Sewing Machines?

Thanks for the info Lark. I have the foot pedal for it too, but it's not pictured and in sad shape. GF and I were on a road trip last year and we were stopping at yard sales and looking on CL for the areas we passed through. Saw this one for cheap so I took it.

    Anybody Else Collect Sewing Machines?

I don't really collect them, but I have one. I picked it up because Western Electric used to make sewing machines, then phones (which I do collect). I haven't done anything with it since I got it a year ago. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, I can't even keep up with my vintage phone...

    Vintage Phones

Nice! Where do you find chrome bands for AE's? I have an AE 40 and a few 50s that I would like to add chrome bands to.

I just happened to come across it in another thread: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?6752-Sound-Quality-Old-Phones&highlight=telephone

    Vintage Phones

One of my recent additions to my collection, a Stromberg-Carlson 1216. Haven't figured out how to convert it to function as a single-line phone yet, so for now, it serves as a decor piece.

    McCartney's 3-Piece and the 2nd death of the 3-button

Pardon me for reviving an old thread, but yeah, my thoughts too! (Or is that "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah", haha!) I came here looking for info on the suits the "Fab Four" were wearing in this particular clip on Youtube: The Beatles- She Loves You (1963 Live). I think they look pretty sharp and wouldn't...

    Vintage Phones

I've acquired several phones since I last posted here, but this one is the most unique. My first multi-line phone, a WE 440. A multi-line version of the 302. Fully functions, but only on one line since that's all I have in my humble abode. The original black background behind the "A" was...

My philosophy is similar. When I can't dazzle them with brilliance, I baffle them with bs!

What art is in your home?

I'm pretty sure it's a print. There's a signature in the lower left, but it's covered by the frame and the back is sealed. I'm also fairly certain the frame isn't vintage either, but no matter, I liked it well enough and it's much better than what I had hanging there before.

What art is in your home?

Picked this up at an antique mall south of me on my way to visit Mom. No idea who the artist is, but it went well in that corner.

    Does anybody dance the Charleston?

It did occur to me that it would be very aerobic, but that's actually an inducement. Aerobic exercise just for the exercise is boring. Much prefer something like this. The fact they were doing it in heels amazes me! But then, I don't see how women can even walk in those things!

    Does anybody dance the Charleston?

Wasn't sure where to post this, so here it is. I recently acquired a stack of unwanted 78s from a collector who said they were just "junk". Just goes to show you, one man's junk is another man's treasure. Among them was a copy of Isham Jones Orchestra "The Original Charleston". I...

If you had a chance to travel through a TIME MACHINE for a WEEK? where would you go?

The only thing I'd really want to do is to find me and slap some sense into myself! But as much sense as I needed, it would take a lot of slapping, could get brutal!

If you had a chance to travel through a TIME MACHINE for a WEEK? where would you go?

Ditto that. And at the risk of sounding like I'm flirting, you take after your Grandmother!

    Lamp shades

You're right about the originals that I've come across. Very fragile shape at best, faded and not real attractive. Learning to make them myself is an interesting idea, probably easier than learning to make and tailor a suit, but I still wouldn't know where to start. If I can find somebody...

    Lamp shades

Thanks for all the info. Guttersnipe, I'll answer for Forgotten Man because the photos show as a link in the email. http://www.vintageshades.com He wasn't kidding about being expensive. I'll be taking a good look at my white shade to see if I can find a manufacturer's name. I'm pretty sure...

    Lamp shades

This isn't so much a display post but rather a question on a couple of lamp shades I have. The first one is a Goodwill find that I'm pretty sure is a reproduction, but I really like that style and would like to know what it's called so I'll know what to search for. Second one is also a...
