A couple of photos from England for you!
The first is the summer of 1936. The photo is of my grandmother and her parents.
This one is an earlier photo, but I have no idea as to the exact date. It's taken at Smithfield market in Manchester. The lady second from the left is my grandfathers...
I think I've used the wind trolleys on my campdrafts twice and both times they annoyed the hell out of me. I don't bother now.
I've never lost a hat either.
I've been out in some pretty strong gusty winds with my fed IV. If it fits well then I've found, as above, that turning my head into the wind (or looking down) keeps the hat on. Also the brim seems to give and flap a little giving you a bit of a warning.
I've not had the wind blow my hat off and...
I too take a 40 reg in a suit jacket and I searched ebay and even went into the Burberry shop in Manchester to try one on. I too came to the conclusion that I needed a 50. However, I took a chance on a cheap unsized (vague description from the owner) one that fits like a glove. When I looked at...
A few days ago while I was tidying up in the garden (hatless for a change:eeek:) a neighbour wanders over and asks where he can get a hat like the ones I usually wear, as it looks so good, very smart. Hopefully that will be another among our number :D
I hope this works for people around the world.
Stockport is my home town, although I haven't lived there in over 20 years.
Lots of hats to see as you'd expect from a film of that era. Gents in their bowlers, lots of caps, the ladies in their straw boaters and what must be the gaffer in his...
That looks terrific (as usual), great bash.
The colour looks more blue than other pictures of the BGG I've seen. I love my Campdrafts and I must resist buying another.
No honestly, I must resist!:D
I've just returned from walking into town. It started raining, that horrible fine drizzley stuff that soaks you through. Not to worry, I was protected by an Akubra Fed IV!
(Hmm I don't know why my pics always come out sideways when I post from my phone?!)
I had a classic from a little boy who came up to me in the school playground as I was going into one school I visit and asked if I was Guy Fawkes!
I know my Fed IV has a high crown, but come on........ (it did make me laugh though)
I think that would work especially if teamed up with brown shoes or other earth tone accessories (scarf/tie/gloves) and of course your trousers.
I tend to match hat and shoes - brown hat=brown shoes, black shoes=grey hat, but that's just my take on it.
I couldn't agree more.
It may be where I live, out here in wildest wooly-back country, but I haven't seen much of that particular brand for a while. Is it still so prevalent?
Thank you very much for your kind comments. I really do like my hats. I can't remember the last time I left the house without a lid on!
I really like the Akubras, I've got three Fed IVs (Brown, Fawn, Moonstone), two Campdrafts (a Moonstone sent in error but I kept it anyway and a Silverbelly)...
A timely arrival from the land down under! I ordered a Silverbelly Campdraft before Christmas and when it had been made and was ready for shipping I had a Fawn Fed IV popped in the box too. ;)
I think both will be great summer colours to wear now the sun has started to shine over here in the...
I've just had a box arrive from Hatsdirect!:D
I ordered a Heritage Silverbelly Campdraft before Christmas and as they were out of stock in my size I had to wait for Akubra to make it. It's been a long wait, but it's been worth it. It's a great hat and a lovely colour. I went for a rough...
