I wouldn't imagine that it will become anything more than the cottage industry it is now.
I recently visited the hat museum in Stockport where almost all the UKs felt hats were made, back in the day. They were making millions of them every week, exported all over the world. I doubt it'll ever...
That hat looks great! Good find at £16 too.
I believe that what suits you is what you like. As moehawk said above, fashions change and at one time people would have worn really high crowns and wide brims yet a decade or two later those same people would have worn shorter crowns and smaller...
That makes sense. If I remember rightly there was also a much earlier movement against felt hatters by the wool/cap makers guild. It makes sense that there would be some sort of protectionist movement within the home industry in those pre-globalised times.
It is also worth remembering that...
The strange thing about "til death us do part" is that it's so well written that people don't always see the parody and the attempt to show up the bigoted and racist views that many people hold.
Indeed, and a most fashionable chap he was too! I'm sure Edward the VII would have made the Homburg fashionable amongst the upper classes at the time. Fashions have always tended to follow the monarchy and I'm sure that would have sown the seed for the politicos, who were generally the...
You'll struggle to get anything that looks like that hat inexpensively in the UK in my humble opinion. You might be lucky and find something on ebay, but it'll probably be a black, small brimmed, trilby type hat rather than the wide brimmed fedora type hat in the photo.
When I started wearing...
Apart from the excellent hats and clothing, it's the positive and friendly atmosphere and attitude that has me coming back here.
There are too many fora out there on the web that are ruled over by the most acerbic and vitriolic of people. So much so, that I'd rather not read the rubbish that...
Great hats today everyone.
I'm going to break my own record and post photos from two consecutive days. I took a snap before I put my overcoat on and heading out to work.
Another Campdraft, though this one is my "converted" silverbelly.
Thanks moon, that means a lot. I've learnt everything about hats from all you great guys here on the FL.
'Proper' felt hats and more importantly hat wearers are thin on the ground over here and it's been a steep but very enjoyable learning curve!
There seems to be a bit of CD theme today!
Great bit of bow work Esther (and thanks for the compliment!)
Thanks moon, no need to apologise, the bash is the thing for sure. Here's a better pic of the bash
It's been a while since I've posted a pic in this thread so here goes!.......
Apologies for the grainy pics, I think it was bad light.
Akubra Campraft Deluxe in Moonstone today
I recognised the name, but couldn't bring him to mind. A quick google later.....it's not the sort of music I'd usually listen to, but what a great musician.
You can't go wrong with a Tele!
They do become a part of you. He is 1" under 18 hands, and weighs in somewhere close to 2200-2300 lbs. He is a gelding and is 12 years old. Our last draft was a Percheron. My dad bought him at 2 yrs old and worked him constantly. His name was Joe. He died at age 31 in the stable, with his head...
Everything has already been said but I'll add my 2 penneth worth.
I have yet to see a hat that didn't suit someone. Lots of things are written on the web about head shape and crown/brim dimensions but I haven't yet seen a picture of someone wearing a hat (except for comic reasons) that didn't...
