Blue Suit Ad
One other tidbit of information about that suit, which led me to this ad:
In the upper chest pocket of the jacket, there was an old Robt. Burns
cigar band. In Googling that, I found this! It was on a university
History Project website and according to that, there is no copyright...
More pics of the BLUE SUIT
Ok, you guys are torturing me with this one! Gaberdine or not, I LOVE it!
Here are some more pictures I took. The color is navy, more like the pants.
The jacket photos were taken with the camera's flash and the pants were
shot using the camera's fill-in flash...
SB Fabric
Thanks all for answering!
I'll go ahead and get a close-up of that blue suit fabric for you...
and get tag info AND for the brown and black striped suit that Baron asked about too.
As for the Gaberdine being a very smooth stretchy twill, I'm not so sure I agree with that; I had...
Hello.....
I have 2 suits that I would like you guys to take a look at.
The spots that you see are from the camera's flash -sorry, due to
all the gray skies and snow here, it's too dark inside to take a photo
that shows up well.
The first is a suit from the estate of a southern judge...
Hello! I have a question for you that I can't figure out, concerning the
closures on men's pants:
Buttons 1930s -40?
Metal talon zippers, with buttons at the top;
1950s but what about the 40s? Were there metal Talons then?
I have an old child's red and black plaid hunting jacket that...
When yer right, yer right!
Yeah, I guess you're right about the 70s, no chance of the 60s huh? I
despise the 70s and don't want to think that this wonderful coat was from
that era! It's kind of Burberry-ish on the inside, at least the inner lining is!
Oh well..... wanna compromise and call...
Buttons, cuffs?
I almost forgot..... what is the proper term for those buttons?
Horn? I don't think antler or bone, or are they none of the above?
Also, any idea of the 'proper' name for those cuffs?
Thanks!
~Martina~
Size of overcoat...
Hey Nulty,
ACTUAL size you want? Well.... I can tell you this.....
The coat is quite large! The chest measures 54" across, pit to pit and it's
45.5" long. The sleeves are 35" from the bottom of the neck in back, to the
sleeve end.
So does that make it a size 50 Long? I...
This coat has a BUTTON-out lining and collar of black wool. The inner lining is cotton I believe. I have NO idea of this coat's age... I was think older though, due to all the neat gadgets on the collar and the neat inner vertical pocket, at the chest.
The inner lining -the one...
Hello!
As always, I have some questions! I have a couple of 1940s suits (one 1930s I think) and two coats that I need help with. Will post the suits under that forum though.
Can anyone tell me the approx. date of these coats?
The first looks like it's gray and black but a close-up shows...
Super Shiny Pinky/Red suit... What year?
This last suit is one of the ones my Father-In-Law picked up for me to sell; he thinks the company that sold it went out of business in the 60s but isn't sure. I can't decide on a year with this one.. it's sort of looks 70s or 80s but then again maybe...
Belt Backed Suit 1940s or 60s?
It's a dark brown belt-back. I think 1940s but maybe 60s? It's definitely a light weight gaberdine wool. It has a metal zipper and 4 slide clip things above the zipper. BUT the only tag on it says Made in Italy... so I'm at a loss! It's really nice though and...
Ok, here you go... big photos
Sorry, I was trying to avoid placing large pictures in the post. Ok, here's the first suit: with the 'Hollywood Clothes, California' label. The others will follow.
~Martina~
That will give large photos...
Thanks for the advice Nick about the photos but these are fairly large and I was trying to put Clickable thumbnails in here, rather than the full sized photos themselves. Marc did it in his Belt-Backed Suits thread, so I know it can be done and I know how to do it...
Are the photos showing?
Gosh, I'm sorry about this... I'm used to doing my own HTML on web pages, not in here, and I think my thumbnails are not showing let alone allowing you to click on them and see the larger picture... Can someone let me know? All I can view from my end is the HTML code...
Hi again! I was wondering if you guys could help me once more to date a few more suits I have -sooner of later I WILL get to the bottom of this pile! I have three suits here and I'll write a brief description above each one. Click on the thumbnails and that should bring up a new window with a...
Museum, probably....
Hey Doc!
I feel that you're absolutely right but you know, I've had this since the summer and believe me, I've asked around! I've written to a couple places in Alabama and there's no one interested! I don't know whether to be shocked or just appaled!
~Marti~
Ok, the 60s it is!
Hi Baron & Marc,
Baron, the jacket had a 3/4 steel gray lining. I think you and Marc are both right though... it's a 60s remake of a 30s jacket!
Hey, I posted something in the General Attire area about a jacket from the Civil Rights March 1965 in Alabama... can you give...
