Sorry, no pics, but I have had two wool felt C-crown shape hats ... a brown and a black ... and got a good amount of wear from them. They were a different brand name, but very similar to the Jaxon hats and I am familiar with Jaxon merchandise. I bought a fur felt Iconoclast and got a lot of use...
Yeah,
Let's see some more bowties on here!
They are great to wear under a vest during the colder months. Especially for those of us who have experienced the horrible ravages of gravity in our figure over the years.
That way you can wear a tie without having to tuck it between the vest and...
I would just like to, for what it's worth, put in a plug for these hats.
I have bought two of Picker's hats so far ... the Kokoda and the Fed IV ... these hats are just like brand new, folks.
They come expertly packed in good boxes and this is a guy who takes good care of his hats.
I'm...
Link,
I love my green CD too and I know what you mean about the creasing.
I had something along that issue with my Bushman and then I had a wide, dark brown ribbon put on it and it really changed its dimensions.

Under $100, keep on here and see the Akubras that show up ... just leave the 60s alone.
You can buy new condition hats, depending on your size, and meet some great hat folk at the same time.
You say you are new to fedoras.
I just recently gave away my last two "fill in" wool felt...
Yeah, one of my guilty confessions ... I really feel bad about this guys ... is the number of vintage ORs and OR clones I destroyed over about 20 years of post-Civil War Indian War living history projects.
I converted one into a campaign hat and other guys saw how cool they turned out, and back...

I think normal creasing and normal wear are fine.
My point is ... to achieve the look that John Ford wanted in these cav movies -- he WAS recreating the Frederick Remington image, after all -- the costume folks created these overly creased crown hats.
You can still do that to a hat...
Mike,
All I can tell you is that the Duke, late in life, acknowledged that his cav hat was over creased.
His sons, Pat and Michael both, have commented that the old hat was pretty well shot when their dad stopped wearing it.
To be fair, the hat had been used a lot and John Wayne himself...
Years ago I had a hat stolen out of a restaurant by a bus boy and the cashier said they knew this guy was taking people's hats but the owner wouldn't do anything about it.
I learned my lesson.
The hat stays with me.
I am perfectly willing to put my hat on a chair next to me. Otherwise it...
One thing you have to remember when determining how to copy the John Ford cav hat crease is that they were being put in hats that were used to film a movie ... not to wear for every day.
The hats in the movies have extreme creasing ... the sort of thing that would quickly lead to the Rio...
Columbo?!
For cryin out loud!
Oh, wait a minute. I've got it.
Columbo was originally part of the NBC package of mystery shows ... Columbo, McMillan and Wife and McCloud.
Dennis Weaver wore a rather neat looking western hat in that series and Stetson even brought a version out in the...
To be completely honest Mike, you look a little more like Pat Wayne than John Wayne, but believe me ... having met Patrick ... that IS a compliment.
Actually you look a little like Jeff Hunter from Sgt. Rutledge ... another great John Ford cavalry movie.
And the hat looks great.
Sam
There you go.
Pinch fore and aft, roll the brim and add an officer's hat braid
I did the same thing with an older Resistol ... not that thin but it's what I had
Sam
Tomorrow will be one of those days.
Today was a "brown" day, so tomorrow is a gray or blue day and it's going to be cold in Kansas, which means the Schott will get some wear and that black Squatter just cries to go along.
What are you going to do? I hate to see a grown hat cry...
I owned at least three well worn vintage brown fedoras when Raiders hit the Big Screen
I'd been wearing ORs shaped as fedoras for at least 5 years by 1981
I graduated from college in 1977 and had started buying up heavy felt, wide brim fedoras while I was still in college ... of course I...
