First of all, tealseal, welcome to the Lounge
I think each hat is a little different
If you have a hat that obviously can be snapped at will, then go ahead and store it snapped up
On the other hand, if it's got a more "Safari" brim that doesn't snap easily, just store it that way...
Lefty,
I've gotten some great hats from the Amish over the years.
When I was in Indian Wars living history, that is where I'd get the hats I'd make into by officer grade campaign and dress hats. They were really tough and great looking.
Before I got my black Squatter, I was seriously...
I've been seriously wearing hats since about 1972.
I have heard all sorts of comments.
I have never heard a smart comment that did not, at heart, really mean ... "Gee, I wish that hat was mine!"
Or ... "Man, I wish I had the guts and good taste to wear a hat that cool!"
No one in their...
The Gray Fox is a terrific movie and it was a-typical for a Western.
Leo Farnsworth was a great character actor, but he proved in that movie that he could carry the film. His life story is so sad. I would be great to have a few more parts.
He added a lot to other stars' movies ... such as...
If TV were REALLY powerful ...
And if TV were REALLY good ...
Then we would have hat counters out of the 40s in every Walmart.
But it's NOT.

It doesn't bother me to fall in with MB at ALL.
I have tried modern Stetsons, a Biltmore and Dobbs and the ONLY hats I am currently impressed with after wearing for a while has been Akubras.
I've put a bit of wear on mine now and I like them better than ever.
The only challenge I see is...
There was a thread on here years ago showing those way cool plaid wool unconstructed jackets from the 40s and 50s, worn with slacks and fedoras ... so cool. Unfortunately the only jackets like that I've ever seen for sale around here were fairly small ... and to me a 46 is fairly small, if you...
Dad taught when I was REALLY young ...
You always tilt it forward and to the right for average wear.
Over the years I've added:
Way forward = Leave me alone
Way back = Aloha ... especially with appropriate shirt and sun specks
Brim up, forward and to right with above clothes =...

Man, what can you say.
You Da Man!
But the dweeb who mailed hats like that ... wow, I mean, wow. Time to hire some drovers to stop by and pay him a visit!
You did great, though.
Sam
That is so cool.
Got sidetracked at work, and I lost the images of the completed Adam Cartwright inspired lid, but I'll get it shot again.
This hat has turned out really great.
Just wear it like Pete in the early days. He got pretty rough looking towards the end there.
Good work!
Sam
Start casual.
Wear it around your friends, out to shop, fall and winter are the perfect time
"I'm just trying to keep the weather off."
That Akubra will take the weather just fine.
By spring have a couple more, dressy ones, and add them into the mix and start looking for some straws for...
Paul,
We take the Yankee thing OK around here, but from Arkansas on south, it's probably NOT a good idea.
Good point about the names, though.
Stetson = cowboy hat
I've known people who believed they wore Resistol Stetsons.
Xerox, Kleenex, Styrofoam
Bubba-Gump Shrimp ... "It's a...
Very nice looking sticks.
Every try working with Osage Orange?
It is tough to work with, but the heart wood makes up into terrific looking sticks.
Keep up the good work.
Hope you sell out,
Sam

If it's worth anything, I've lived almost 60 years in cowboy country.
I HAVE cowboyed.
And you got the look in your avatar!
As we say:
Cowboy Up!
Sam
This the last cowboy song:
The end of a hundred year waltz.
The voices sound sad as they're singin' along.
Another piece of America's lost.
He rides the feed lots, clerks in the markets,
On weekends sellin' tobacco and beer.
And his dreams of tomorrow, surrounded by fences,
But he'll...
I just lucked into one of these ... in a larger size ... from a local vendor. It had virtually no wear on it and was I excited!
This is a great leather jacket and incredibly comfortable.
It has the best knit bottom, wide and thick, so it won't roll as you wear it.
Anyone who buys one of these...
My heroes have always been cowboys.
And they still are, it seems.
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,
Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.
What's so bad about bein' a cowboy, anyway?
"When you call me that, smile."
