If you want a taste for the affectation of the 40s, check out "The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer" or "Father was a Fullback" They are both full of the slang and "carriage" of that era
The Andy Hardy films also, but they are more white bread.
"She said 'MURDER' she said!"
"Bless her pointed...
The United States Army Cavalry Museum is at Fort Riley, a couple of hours from here, and its amazing what they have preserved, what was held onto and is now on display.
It's right off I-70. Anyone passing through should stop, to see the hats, if nothing else.
MB ... If you think that is...
There is a crease that works great with Akubras, you can use it on Squatters, Pastoralists and I used it on my Kokoda, too, though it was not as necessary, but you CAN crease a Pastoralist into a Camp Draft style, you just have to be careful about how you arrange the crown so you get the maximum...
This is the model the Army issued for years. You see it in the early World War II photos. I have one and they are good sun helmets.
The sweat band is leather/vinyl with laces at the back to adjust the size.
The touch thing is it has a set of metal braces that rivet onto the back and then link...
I have this same hat but in tan and if this was a size larger I'd be all over it.
These are terrific vintage hats.
AT LEAST as tasty as a Whippet to wear.

This is a joke, isn't it?
I mean ... it's not REALLY, REALLY gone this time, right?
Like, as soon as I log off, it will be here, won't it?
I KNOW HOW YOU ALL TALK ABOUT ME BEHIND MY BACK AND IT'S NOT GONE AT ALL IS IT?
Sorry, too much coffee.
Seriously ... Is it really gone?
Sam
Yeah, as I remember it was after a big event ... maybe New Year's.
It's a great pic and a great hat. Looks like it was a great night, too.
I want one of each, though I can't handle the who-hit-john.
Sam
You are on to something with the homburg suggestion.
A good fur felt homburg with a tall crown and wide brim always looks nice with a full on suit. They just tend to be hard to find or pricey.
Very dressy though.
Good suggestion!

Yeah, when you start parting out a kit like that, you can mount up costs real quick.
I am under orders to get with my IT guy "kid" at work to learn how to post pics and I will work on that this week if I don't step on too many land mines;
I have picked up a couple of concho belts over the...
Man, am I in trouble.
About the only time I wear my Squatter, all three, is with a sportscoat and tie.
Course, out here, we don't go in for REAL dressy. Still too busy fightin off the Kiowas.
Sam
I think I still have the image saved. It was a long time ago and I just remember the guy had his picture taken after a party. He had on a bowtie, as I recall.
Yep, just checked. Green hat, green sportscoat and yellow bowtie.
A very happy looking gent!
Anyway ... It was that really rich...
I have a gray Knox 25 with wide black ribbon. I'd say that is a classic combination and it goes well with navy, gray or black in sports coats .... I rarely wear a "suit."
It also goes great with that color range in Hawaiian shirts and jeans!
Sam
Glad to hear about us discussing what we WANT to have, cuz I'm enough of a suck up to admit it ... I want one of those dark green Penmans, like the one that was posted on here years ago.
I don't remember the story, but the owner was tipsy when he had his pic taken.
I just remember he had on...
