Oddly inexpensive Borsalinos

Anyone know anything? Even e/ $27 usd in post still seems to be a good deal, and access to Stetsons not sold 'stateside.

I don't understand the word "ringworm", but it doesn't cost anything to me to try to be helpful: in France, or in the french language, "un Borsalino" refers, generally in fact, to the "Fedora" type hat. So any hat looking roughly like that would invariably be called a "Borsalino".
It's a bit analogous to, in days past, any photo camera was called a "Kodak", any refrigerator (over here) a "Frigidaire", and in England they "hoover" the rug.
They're known to make other mistakes, like calling any American "a yankee"...

We take the Yankee thing OK around here, but from Arkansas on south, it's probably NOT a good idea.
Good point about the names, though.
Stetson = cowboy hat
I've known people who believed they wore Resistol Stetsons.

With both of them being owned by HatCo, there's not much of a difference between the two. Was the Resistol acquisition any more than just the purchase of the trademark, or did a factory go with it?

The Garland, TX factory is the Resistol factory, I recall....

You know, now that you say that I DO seem to recall having read this once.

On this site tho' they have the (ostensibly Borsalino) hats grouped w/ other Borsalino products (which are certifiably from Borsalino) & the there is ol' Giuseppe in the right margin of the page.

It makes me think these may well be the real thing... anyone fluent in French who might make a brief enquiry? [huh]

kabuto, I think gtdean48 is correct - the company that owned Resistol eventually acquired the rights (license?) to the Stetson name. Resistol was always there; the Dobbs, Stetson, Knox, Mallory, etc. names were acquired by that company in various deals. Brad Bowers did a study on that in the thread Classic Hat Makers List.

Yes...but... It's not like changing an open crown from Art Fawcett or Optimo. Neither is it as stiff as your standard Stetson/Beaver/Dobbs. Steam works well. And it is sharp looking!

I never got used to the feel of the hat so I gave it to a buddy. He had Optimo resize and reshape it.

Do you remember if it had a leather or fabric sweat? Might you recall the brim width? Looks like about 2 1/4"-2 3/8" , certainly no more.

I think after currency conversion and everything else, about $158. That's the number the fraud prevention guy quoted me when he called to verify the purchase.

And, why not jump in? I wanted a packabe hat.
