To be honest most my of own hats I've tried to soften them rather than stiffen being Akubra's lol. But I would use a blonde shellac unless the hat has a strong colour then it may not matter so much if blonde or natural. For re-water proofing I always used a Aussie brand of Shelley's products but...
Ok, as to my understanding (I could be wrong and often am lol) the Different Grey's used in order from Darkest to light. Carbon and graphite are the same as Carbon Grey and Graphite Grey
Graphite - Carbon Grey - Glen Grey - Mid Grey - Cruiser Grey - Moonstone.
Now we have to remember...
That's the thing, whom did you buy those hats from? I think it's whom you bought your hat from that had that model Akubra hat custom died for them and then on-sold to end user (Us). If a large enough order is placed, Akubra pretty much make which ever hat of their range in almost any colour the...
You forgot Cruiser Grey lol, thing is besides their own colour palette they also do custom colours for clients who do special orders (probably min order couple hundred lids or more).
Never noticed till now looking at this photo, being my most worn hat it's conformed to my noggin shape best. Off-topic slightly but I must be long oval as you can see looking at the sides and front/back on the inner hat band.
You can see some of the crown at brim level at the sides while...
Sad to say and a thank you to the OP but I fell in-love with the style/colour and bought myself one lol. Only had it a week 'n a half and worn it 6 times already...... What...I'm break'n it in so it fits my scone better!
Main difference between the two is the crown form. Cooper Pedy is more center pinch but still a fine/small tear drop while the Cattleman is wide open full teardrop uptop.
The Cattleman has no liner either, the Cooper Pedy is lined and also has a Opal (gem stone). Cooper Pedy more a dress hat...
Well from one noob to another welcome to the hat section of the forums Snowman, lots of wonderful people about here with a wealth of info between them. It's just a cool place to hang, share and read a bit too.
Old thread but interesting, I have no idea of whats correct or not but here is what I was told and/or under the impression of and if it makes any difference I'm an Aussie. Bashing is an Aussie slang term, it has several meanings down here.
Downunder,
Akubra's have always been known for their...
Think Kevin said they (JJ's) have no larger sizes left though.
As to vent holes I guess it's a personal choice. I much prefer them and would rather have them than not, but I also live in one of the hottest driest parts of the world being in the middle of Australia. Never really thought about...
I use what my grandfather used for his hat (well all his leather items, saddle, boots etc even all his wooden gear and furniture I think he used it on.) and that's just a simple bee's wax with orange oil. Only ever so lightly, more I just get my finger greasy and then rub the leather band when...
Doesn't sound like it's old or had that much use, still looks good you say. If you add up the time/days/hours.... This hat although much older has about 7 years everyday real world use, or 12+ hours a day wear if you like. 6 days ago we threw it in a washing machine, then in the bath for an hour...
Just off eBay I think from memory, but they are Australian brands. Max Alexander does fancy fashion for like race days etc and do a range of fasinators. One of my Son's bought it for my 52 B-day, Jacaru is a affordable/lower end Aussie brand also, most people think of them for their larger...
What's best will be subjective to a point, it might be that hat that while not brilliant is just so comfy it's like wearing your pajama's. Or one that's just got that slight quirk to it that speaks to your personality or maybe the hand made custom jobbie. etc..etc..
I've got a cheap wool felt...
Yeah, vintage can be hard to find good hats in large/Xlarge sizing. You can finds cheap mid to small sizes far cheaper and more often.
Here in Australia most cheap ones sell on a place called "Gumtree", Facebook market place and eBay as already suggested also. Though I've seen them asking...
