Hey folks!

I’m not new to the Lounge, but til now I’ve mainly spent my time in the outerwear section. I have a small collection of really great jackets: vintage Sears Hercules half belt, vintage Bates crosszip, vintage Apparel Annex trucker, Schott 375 “Duke” roughout trucker, Schott 141 Cafe Racer.

Made my first hat purchase today so I suppose I’m going down another rabbit hole here. I went for a new Open Road 6x in fawn to go along with my earth tone leathers. Once it arrives (if the fit is right) expect to see me in the what are you wearing today threads.

Let’s see how deep the rabbit hole goes, shall we?

Yay, another on the team.
Welcome.
Over here you can ask how does it fit and not feel like jumping out a window. Oops

Yep. I don't know about JAS (Jacket Acquisition Syndrome) but be forewarned, HAS (Hat Acquisition Syndrome) can be transmitted from one Lounger to another electronically. It is more catching than the Corona virus and, to date, no know cure or vaccine has ever been found. Once bitten, it is HAS for life.
The only known treatment; more hats. Don’t fight it. Just Let it run it’s course.

Heck I even wear a hat when comfy in my tracksuit and uggboots chillin and I'm not talking bout no baseball cap lol, I got no excuse either as I have a full head o hair.

As you can see from my post count I'm a noob as well to the forum but sadly I already suffered HAS and I doubt coming here will be of any help for me except for digging deeper down that rabbit hole.

Been a hat fan my whole life. Remember my grandfather wearing fedoras all the time. My dad is a baseball guy. I’m wearing some sort of hat in most pictures of me as a kid. I’ve picked up some cheaper wool outback style hats over the years, but recently started looking at some fedoras and learning about them. In scouring the internet, I kept coming back to The Fedora Lounge so thought I’d join.

I bought a couple vintage hats at an antique shop this weekend. One was a Crofut & Knapp. The color of it is great! It feels really neat. The sweatband is as hard as a rock. It fits great. Should I just wear it as is and let the sweatband do whatever it will do or should I replace it? I used some Chamberlain’s Leather Milk on it, but no change. Also, it came with a box and I would guess it’s not the original since it is branded Knox.

Welcome. Being a hat lover you’re in the right place.

Your hat looks to be nice milan weave. I wouldn’t do anything at all to the sweatband; you’re more likely to damage it than help it. If it at some point falls apart you can look at replacing it, but was long as it’s comfortable keep wearing it. As a caution: if it’s hard there’s a good chance I has dry rot. Moisture from perspiration, steam, liquid based leather conditioners, etc, can cause the leather to shrivel, crack, break apart, or all of the above. Wear it without undue concern, but be prepared. If the leather fails then replace it.

Great hats. If the leather sweat is uncomfortable or it falls apart on you .....it is an inexpensive fix if you do it yourself. Top quality leather sweats can be had for $18-24 and it really is not that hard to sew them on yourself. Use the old one as the size template, a needle and thread and about an hour or so and it is done.

Noob here. Thanks for the add. I’ve always liked hats, and usually had a couple (or more) inexpensive department store crushable around. After inheriting my grandfather’s Royal Stetson, I wanted a daily wear “good” hat, so I bought another Stetson strat. I don’t have a collection, per se, but I did just acquire this Stetson No. 1.
