Well looks like I'm in the same club now folks, wife came up with the goodies today and a smooch as well. Best friend a man can have is often the one that stands beside him!
Well this is why I call my other half the better half!
No wonder I still love her just as much 36 years later, here's her secret........
Edit: Opps...forgot the hats I was so excited about the steamer lol. Both Akubra Fed IV, Dark Brown and Carbon Grey. I guess I joined more than just the...
All my hats have the same pin on them, well not the same actual pin but same type on each hat. I don't move the pin from one hat to another lol. My username will give you a hint ;)
Anyways, the hat I was wearing yesterday I'm wearing again today and obviously it has it as well and a new custom...
Only thing I'll add is pretty obvious but be careful, steam can burn skin easily if you get too close and keep it away from any leather, it was once skin too.
Well maybe a couple of things lol.
If using just a pot or billy (what we used on small camp fires) you can fashion a aluminium foil...
Just a heads up FYI if Akubra lovers didn't have it already but the hard cover coffee table book "Akubra, handcrafted history" that normally sell's for $70-$100 can be bought from Akubra currently for only $20!
Wife snagged free postage even for us, it weighs like 2-3kg, heavy as for a book...
Well I just need something to go between the top and the base now, damn shame how much was eaten/ruined. Lovely timber, am doing it all the old fashioned way. Bee's wax with Tripoli powder for the cut 'n polish and just a natural shellac to seal 'n protect. Will then just polish with bee's wax...
New or pre-loved? For a wool Aussie slouch hat New I think RRP is about $150 but you see them often on sale for around a $100-$130 AUD, 2nd hand you can pretty much always find both fur felt and wool so re-sale isn't high and you can buy them used from army surplus stores all over.
I was just...
No it's not made by Akubra, their model is fur felt. It's a Statesman Military model imported by MountCastle Hats. They are an old Australian hat company that also imports and exports hats. I believe those are made in Sri Lanka from Aussie wool.
No idea how to date it I'm sorry, they are still...
Well it's not going to be as large as I wanted but I have managed to save a bit and make a start, this is only a teaser of the base. I find it quite difficult as besides not being as young as I'd like I'm also disabled, hands are contracted closed and can't use my thumbs, try doing your shoe...
Darn it, no it wasn't and they'd eaten all over... I'll have to find another bit o wood, pity as the wood itself was quite figured and extremely unique.
Hmmm, was looking at my firewood pile and thought this might make a nice hat stand.
What's your thoughts, well I needed it out of the side paddock anyways and now it's old 'n dried it was about to be tossed on the fire lol....to be continued.
(I'm certain y'all think I'm crazy.......We'll see...
Just out in the yard doing chores, this lid is kinda new yet still old. It's not new, but it's never been worn much though I think that will change now.
Wife had a go at doing a new ribbon for my Silverbelly Campdraft, look at this ribbon, her first attempt and I think she rocked it in. I love...
Wow, I've not heard of Tab since the 70's lol.
Not sure the Indy thing is a thing downunder, If it is or was I missed it lol. To be honest I didn't even hear of Indy until recently after joining this forum. But then I'm a boring old fart, good fun movies though. I like all Harrison's movies...
Congratulations on getting the Snowy River, nice score for the price. Yeah, Fizzy drink works down here as well, forgot that one. Yeah, now you mention it I thought I'd also heard soft drinks called Soda-pop
Yeah, I knew what you meant lol. But just in the interest of discussion and how weird us Aussies can be lol.
In Australia Coke or lemonade etc is called soft drink.... Not pop or soda, a Pop to us would be either your Grandfather, a lollie pop (as in a Chuppa Chup) or an Ice block as in a...
Looks great, that came quickly. Didn't seem like it was only last week we were looking at them. BTW lol, I fully blame you for me buying a Campdraft in BG hahaha.
Nice looking lid mate!
