Does anyone know a way to fix very stressed, nearly ripped seams on a silk dress? It has lots of small pintucks in the sleeves and bust and a few gores in the skirt, and looks as though someone squeezed themselves into the dress even though it was much too small. I thought of fusible backing...
Depends on how big the areas are, but I often use sticky patches you can buy to repair smaller holes (you can get them in different colours). For the underarm area the reinforcing with interfacing sounds feasible, or maybe you could get a tailor to make a lining for the top?
Ugh, I hate when that happens! Especially when you have already got plans to make/wear something somewhere and the other bidder bids in the last ten seconds.
I look in Clarks a lot, and it is always full of elderly ladies.
I know these aren't with a zipper, but they may have those as well soon. These ones are apparently repro from the 50s:

Thanks for your replies ladies! The seller already replied and says she is really sorry and offering a refund, so it looks like it will be sorted. I just don't like situations like this, as I don't think she was out to scam me and it was a genuine mistake, but thanks for all the advice :)
Etsy advice
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, not sure where else to post it?
I have just recently started looking on Etsy and bought one dress I really loved. The second dress I bought arrived today, and the condition is not as described by the seller.
The seller mentioned some seam...
Favourite Recipes
Not sure if this belongs here or has been done, but I did a search and found nothing, so I apologise if this already exists. I thought we could use a great recipe thread to share old family favourites, recipes we found in books or tried and tested ones.
Tonight I made a...
Oh, do you mean the Swirl? The price was a bit high I thought, considering shipping to the UK was about $30 and they mentioned small stains.
Lottie, I am already thinking of making one like the red and white, but good gabardine is so hard to come by and this one is probably really soft...
To be honest, I have watched most Horrockses over the last few months, and bid on a few, and can't recall a single one that went for under £50-60, without reserves. The older they are, the higher the price usually.
I would add the dress' measurements as well, not just the mannequin's and a few...
Some of the vegetables we buy are frozen and apparently they are better than fresh ones, as they get frozen just after harvest, whereas "fresh" ones from the supermarket lose nutrients the longer they sit around.
I also just started to get groceries delivered, and apart from the delivery...
A resounding no from me. I don't like product in my own hair and even less on men. I like it either long and freshly washed or too short for products, no spikes or greasy or sticky stuff and no chemical smells.
I read about those but our printer is busted and also quilters I asked said the quality was questionable and prone to fading, and I needed them for a heirloom quilt, so didn't want to take the chance.
It turned out nice, and exactly the size I needed, but I wouldn't do it for just a home sewing...
I haven't had printed fabric exactly, but I needed ten photos printed on fabric and it took days to find a place to do it and was really expensive. I found some places then that did custom fabrics as well, but it's not worth the cost IMO. There are tons of cute vintage repro fabrics out there...
The crazy thing was I looked at her several times and she pretended she wasn't doing anything, and since it was on her phone I got a bit unsure and had to ask my husband if he saw her taking pics, which he had, so I'm not crazy.lol
And apart from the dress and my make-up we didn't look that...
I was wearing my green polka dot Horrockses again on the weekend whilst walking the dog. A lady we saw started calling us and we thought she was upset about our dog or something, but she just wanted to tell me that she loved my dress and thought I looked pretty. We later went for coffee and a...
