The company is still in business. Why not just send them in for repair?
Not in the slightest. In fact there are more custom hatters today than there were 30 years ago. I use Optimo in Chicago. As for watch repair, there's gotta be over a hundred shops in NY and Chicago alone.
That's the meaning I chose as well.
I'd say that the jeans/ sportcoat look took a toehold at Eastern prep schools and universities circa 1970 and by the end of the decade was being worn by 9-5 suit wearers in their off hours. That's my recollection at least.
There is also a geographical component as well. You'll have an easier time finding suits made with heavy cloth in Chicago than in, say, LA. You might recall the heavyweight stuff Marty Mathis used to post here from his shop in Minneapolis.
Some gents choose to prominantly display their acessories and a fine pen is certainly that. I usually put my sunglasses in the outer breast pocket (along with a hanky.) My pen goes in an inside pocket made especially for it.
