    Formal Wear Primer

Thanks for the tips! Another question I have is, do the collar studs show? Do they need to match the shirt and waistcoat studs and cuff links?

    Stratoliner Vs. 707

Thanks! Yep, me too. I don't want to wear it too often since it's in such nice condition, but it deserves to be worn with pride, not to sit on the shelf for another 60-70 years. That's the old dilemma, I guess. Next time I take in an airshow or visit an aviation museum, I'll definitely be...

    Stratoliner Vs. 707

That's what struck me, too. I guess that's why I bid up to the seller's rather astronomical reserve. It's also my only Stetson that isn't a Royal, Royal Deluxe or "X Beaver." I know the Boeing 307 Stratoliner first flew in 1938, dare I hope that the hat dates back that far?

    Stratoliner Vs. 707

And representing the Jet Age, my Resistol 707. You may recall the dark brown 707 that I posted in the Classifieds that was too small, well this one is a 7-3/8 and fits perfectly. It has a Boeing 707 pin, not as detailed as the DC-3 pin on my Strat.

    Stratoliner Vs. 707

Here's the neat little TWA DC-3 pin that came with my Stratoliner:

    Stratoliner Vs. 707

My Stetson Stratoliner finally showed up, so I thought I'd gather my two aviation-themed lids and show 'em off. The Stratoliner was named for the first pressurized airliner, as we all know. Mine is unlined, and has what appears to be a $6.50 price tag inside the sweatband. If that's what...

    Formal Wear Primer

I'm leaning towards white tie and tails for the QM, at least on Friday night. I've just watched "Top Hat" starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and featuring the wonderful Edward Everett Horton. As a formal wear primer, especially for white tie, that movie is hard to beat. This website...

    Khakis - which ones?

I just checked their site, and wonder of wonders, they have my size! Only in the 8.5oz M2P and only in Khaki, but still! I'll be placing an order next payday.

Add Another Resistol to the Collection

I consider 2" to be, if not quite "stingy," at least a bit "thrifty."

URGENT WARNING!!! YOU MAY NEVER LOOK AT YOUR LID IN THE SAME WAY AGAIN

No, no, no, you take the fur off and make it into a hat! lol

    Rotating Out

The Bartender will first have to admit that he read it too fast when he moved it to "classifieds." lol It happens to the best of us. ;)

My new pet hate in the city

I was riding my bicycle on a bike path a few years ago, and was almost clobbered by another cyclist - he was on a cell phone. lol

Wow, someone REALLY wanted this Stetson!

And those higher prices may pry a few really nice lids out of the woodwork. :) Or keep them out of a dumpster.

How about nutria? Aren't they just ugly fat rats? lol

    Depression-Era Hat Invoices

Excellent! Great find. I was perusing one of the Crofut & Knapp invoices, and noticed the names "Dobbs" and "Cavanagh" on the subhead. I guess they were affiliated by 1930. I also love the typeface used. I wish I could find a computer font that looked like that. :)

    The Departed (2006)

I don't really care for DiCaprio, unless Martin Scorcese is directing him. I may go see this one.

Add Another Resistol to the Collection

Only a Texan would refer to 2-3/4" as a "short brim." lol That is a great looking hat!

Calling All Mods! Calling All Mods!

Gotta have the 17 mirrors, a fake leopard seat cover and the spare tyre on the back. :D

"Are you a 'Mod' or a 'Rocker'?" "No, I'm a Mocker."

Tell me what is desirable in hats.

Style aside, what I look for is soft felt that is pleasant to the touch, can be shaped easily by hand and yet hold its shape. Also, the leather sweatband should be soft and feel nice against my forehead.
