Dannyboy, did you trim that hat yourself? That looks like a great job you've done on that, and I agree, it doesn't look too narrow, in a way that it wouldn't suit the crown shape. Did you happen to use scissors while trimming it, or have you used another method, or had it professionally done?
One quick question about the modern western felts of Stetson hats. Can a modern 4X Stetson Open Road take rain, or will it be ruined? I'm hoping that my previous Open Road, since replaced with a new one (free of charge from Shepler's), is the exception, not the rule. That hat got these bizarre...
For those who own a modern Stetson Open Road (made within the last five to ten years), have you worn it in the rain? I haven't worn my new one yet (the last one I had ended up a disaster in the felt), and I was wondering how it would hold.
Not buying, but more about wearing, for me.
Because in the past some of my family members have expressed embarrassment over my more frequent wearing of hats, I tend to go hatless more these days out of respect for their comfort in public, but when I do wear a hat, I try to keep the occasion...
Does anybody have an Akubra Overlander? It's a hat I was thinking about getting last year, and I'm still considering it. Apparently, my Stetson Open Road (the modern one) hardly fits the bill as a rough weather hat, whereas an Akubra could truly take a beating and still look good. So for a...
Mad Men; Indian Summer and Nixon VS. Kennedy from Season 1. I'm almost going on to the second season. I think Mad Men's a good show, interesting and entertaining, but I wish there was at least one "good guy" sort. They're all morally bankrupt, and no one seems to play it straight.
Same here. I've done that one year with my wool Jaxon c-crown. I think I can also do a non-screen accurate Indiana Jones type of look. Or at least, look like a World War II Navy aviator with my G-1 jacket and khakis. I think I could also pull a Mad Men extra kind of look.
Thank you! Next time, I think I'll just ask for the same cut, and keep the fringe growing for a while longer. I figure it can make for a nice big pompadour.
It may not be the most stylish way to go about it, but I'm tolerant of some wrinkling in my clothing. Usually, I don't iron unless for a few, nicer occasions or before church. After my clothes come out of the dryer, whether 100% cotton or polyester/cotton blend, I just hang them back up. The...
After literally four months without one, I got a hair cut. I showed him a picture of Depp as Dillinger like last time, and got my hair cut very similarly, keeping the fringe long and sides short.
R.I.P. Steve Jobs. I know I'm late, but I use his products every day, whether I consciously think of that or not. I own a Mac computer (my only computer), and a second generation iPod Touch. I am even considering the next iPhone to replace my cell phone of four years. Jobs was a very innovative...
Yeah, I probably should have originally went with 60. My 59 could get a bit too tight at times, although I can stretch it out on my knee and it's not troublesome except for the fact that on my forehead, there's a red mark from where the sweatband was.
If I ever order another Fed IV, I'd...
I have (or had) one, and that's almost exactly the way I creased my brim before I had converted (scissor cut the brim) my homburg into a 2 1/8 inch brim fedora. Looks cool like that, very western-esque.
Actually, I know when my hat is supposed to be dated, based on the sweatband (late 1940s or early 1950s), but what period does my hat look like it could be from? The reason I'm asking is that my hat was originally in fact a homburg, not a fedora, so that could change things. Since I trimmed the...
Congratulations on landing an appearance on the show, Senator Jack.
I guess I'll watch the episode at some point. Is this show interesting, despite the inaccuracies?
How frequently do you guys get haircuts? It's been about three and a half months since I've got one, and currently I have a sort of parted, moptop look going on. The back of my hair is too long to do an authentic looking pompadour anymore. To really preserve the classic style, it seems that I'd...
Not today, it was yesterday, but going to Disneyland with the family, I wore my Federation. I noticed quite a few other people wearing Indy looking hats too, one guy even had a more screen accurate crease going on.
After being used to just wearing my vintage grey Stetson most of the time...
A great quality, dark/medium grey 100% wool suit, worsted (for year-round use), and probably a near-unrealistic amount of durability to the elements or things like tears, stretching, and stains. I would like the lapels to be on the relatively narrow side of moderate (3 or 3 1/4 inches width)...
Everything about HBO's version of that hat is wrong, the color, the black band, the shape and taper... the worst of it all is the color. I could sort of understand a tapered remake of Nucky's hat with the same color. That sort of thing happens all the time to Indiana Jones' hat, after all.
