    Toppers Unite

Forthcoming. The still shots on my video camera are pretty rubbish.

Gentlemen, show us what you've made!

I'm envious of your welt pockets. I am not satisfied with mine.

    WW2 toddler clothing

Blouse, trousers, and hat, typically. Sometimes the collar comes off as well, though it isn't considered a separate piece. I'm thinking of making a sailor suit for my boy, though without the hat. He doesn't care for hats right now, though he loves wearing mine.

A sailor suit is classic, and can be warm or cold weather.

Time Marches On: Except in the Field of Cosmetic Surgery

There is some amusing sniping between Kim Novak and Liz Taylor about cosmetic surgery in The Mirror Crack'd.

    Toppers Unite

Bought another topper this weekend, a Dunn & Co black silk with a metal case for £60. The fit is good, the plush is in excellent condition save for a very small spot on the crown edge. I polishes very nicely, but wet polishing reveales a crease in front that is not visible from dry polishing...

    What's wrong with Ebay?

Agreed. When I sell I never end something early. Most of the action is in the last 30 seconds anyway.

    What's wrong with Ebay?

The first thing I sold on eBay was a '40s Dunn bowler in perfect condition that sadly didn't fit. It had over 30 watchers and ended up going for...£12. Not even half what I paid for it, but that's just the way it goes. Some things go for more than I expected, so I see it as working out even...

    Question about spats

Sometimes you'll also see light cotton spats with a lining. Linen spats can be with or without a lining.

    Toppers Unite

I recently won a grey topper off eBay, I'll post pictures when I have my camera back. It's got a very nice curve to the crown. The only problem is, I'm a bit long oval so it fits front to back but I've had to pad the sides. Pretty much all my hard shell and semi-stiff hats are a bit wide...

Tweed J.C. Penney sport coat with bi-swing

Mario, does that brown jacket have a full lining, or a partial lining? I'm very interested in ways of anchoring the pleats on jackets without the belts. I have a photo of one that was posted on the Lounge where they are left free on the inside, but I believe this was not the prefered method.

Tweed J.C. Penney sport coat with bi-swing

Very interesting, it's rare to see shoulder pleats without the belt. And I don't see the pleats on the inside view, they much be pretty short to be covered by the back lining.

    The Moustache

Rather like photos of Clark Gable without the 'tache.

    The Moustache

Very unlikely. Don't be put off by the price, a tin of wax lasts quite a long while, several months for me and I have a large 'tache I wax almost every day.

    Show us your British suits

Brace buttons, belt loops, and side adjusters? Either the man wanted options or those things were staying in place no matter what. The rounds at the pocket corners are fascinating. Can you give a better closeup of one of the pockets? It looks like there's some sort of tape above the...

I've been considering buying thier women's jodhpurs pattern for my wife, she wants a pair but can't find vintage in her size. I've heard that they are very helpful with regards to their patterns, I've never heard anything about the clothes.

Procedure for Tying a Single End Bow Tie?

Single-ended ties are for white and black tie. The white-tie ones in particular are starched and are sharp as a knife, see for example Anton Walbrook in 'The Red Shoes' where he is clearly wearing a single-ended tie. There are other film examples but that's the one that springs to mind. And...

Detachable Collar Shirts... from TM Lewin?

It seems that different labels have slightly different measurements. Older collars I've come across are worse about it than newer ones. Van Heusen collar packages recommended that thier collars be bought a half size smaller than other companies' collars, which I've always thought odd but...
