    NERD ALERT!!

Yes a good one. I was getting ready to bail on this show too, but The Brig was nicely done piece of tv.

    Fitzgerald vs. Hemingway

Cornell Woolrich was always natily attired. He even kept a sailor suit in a box under his bed during the short time he was married. ;) And if the oic doesn't work here is a link

    Fitzgerald vs. Hemingway

True. His critical reputation was at its lowest in his lifetime, even lower than it was in the fifties. He was still a commercial success, in fact people bought lots and lots fo copies of Green Hills.. and his Harry Morgan stories were lapped up. (I think they are some of his worst.) A lot...

    Exploitation and "B" Movies

Dwain Esper, who made Maniac and quite a few other exploitation films, was one of the producers of Freaks, the Tod Browning film which probably qualifies for this thread. If so, it is my favourite of the genre; it's an interesting, even fascinating, sometimes almost great film in any case.

    Fitzgerald vs. Hemingway

As well, Hemingway had married Pauline Pfeiffer, a former Vogue writer and editor and a very very wealthy woman. Hemingway had all of the advantages here to outshine Fitzgerald sartorially; He was also going through a period in which he was mostly drunk, apparently raving mad, more interested in...

1930's Diary Found in Manhattan Dumpster

1930's Diary Found in Manhattan Dumpster

That's a really interesting story and would be a great basis for a full length documentary film as the multimedia show merely whetted my appetite. It is a shame about the girl's voice though; she reads like Margaret Atwood. Maybe they can hire Nathalie Portman or some such to narrate the film...

    Focus only on vintage?

The magazine title says it all, Classic Style... not exclusively vintage, though inspired by forms and norms of the past.

    Thieves Like Us

This is a really great and terribly underrated movie - despite the celebration of most things Altman this is often left out. It is based on a fantastic book by Edward Anderson who also wrote Hungry Men, a great Depression book (as opposed to a Great Depression book). The book was also the basis...

    NERD ALERT PART II

I hope Marvel sues. Is anybody still watching this? This week's theme episode was the shark jump for me. I'm tired of Hiro, I'm not convinced by his nerdy act and I-make-p@@h-now face and even less conviced by the mascara soul patch and the girdled pot-belly of the warrior Hiro. Sometimes the...

    Just a funny thought...

I've dreamt about falling into a giant hat and being trapped in a land of hat-shaped people with personalites that match their hat-shape and that Charles Nelson Riley was after me for some reason and that he laughed his sneering laugh as flew by in a flying hat. I don't feel rested after...
