Wow!

I just discovered I have a retro movie channel on my Comcast cable box.

I sat up last night until midnight watching this incredible motion picture.

What sets, what camera work, what dialog, what clothes, what HATS!

I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to get through the credits, was that Claude Rains as the alcoholic husband of Barbara Stanwyck?

Her husband is played by Tom Powers, who shows up in a few other noirs - such as the Blue Dahlia and I Love Trouble.

One thing I finally caught after many viewings of this film: Raymond Chandler appears in an uncredited cameo. He's in a chair in the hallway of the insurance building - looks up at Neff as he walks by.

Double Indemnity is pretty good. Barbara Stanwyck looks like my mother when she was young, especially in the scene where she's at the grocery store in sunglasses. THAT IS MY MOM!!! :)

Supposely the studios commented the they wanted Stanwyck and got George Washington.
Someone did not like the blonde wig..

I love this film. The story, casting, acting, directing, etc. are all perfect!

It's just another standard Billy Wilder masterpiece.

(Prompted by this famous story of the shooting of "Sunset Boulevard": When they were setting up for the sequence where they bury Norma's deceased pet monkey, Billy Wilder supposedly told the cameraman, "Joe, it's just your standard monkey funeral shot.")

Save yourself some tears and DON'T watch the TV remake with Richard Crenna and Samantha Eggar.

I think Hitler and Patton had better chemistry.
