But the bowler could have been needed as protection in an emergency situation -- that is, unless one is naturally hard-headed. ;)

    Vintage Shrinkage: a little help...

Occasionally happens to some of mine too. I just plug the tight hat on and let it warm up and dampen again so it relaxes after a while. Kind of a headache but whatcha' gonna' do? By going through this, though, I'm able to eventually 'train' a hat to fit like a custom on my knotty head shape...

    Felt hats in summer..

Here in Florida we get some of the longest, hottest and most humid summers anywhere. Still, I wear a hat every day. Sometimes felt, sometimes panama straw. Also, I am outside in it every day from around 2PM until 9:30PM or so which is the real peak heat period. The panamas are for clear sky days...

Sure looks like a nine to me -- but I'm glad you got them for the lower amount. :eusa_clap If you don't already have a method for removing those indelible marker prices from the soles, here's mine: - I try lighter fluid first but when that doesn't cut it, I sand the area with 150 grit...

***NEW PICTURES PAGE 2***Optimo's new shape PLEASE VOTE...

I think it's just a case of one extreme to the other. I, personally, would not like an optimo crown quite as round as yours was prior -- but I think the boxy re-block is just too severely angular. When Graham in Chicago blocked my panama he struck what I consider a perfect balance, pictured...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Interesting. I have two Whippets. The brown one is one of my favorite fedoras. The proportions, felt quality, the flange of the brim... it's all just perfect, and that hat made me think that Whippets are, in fact, all that. Then there's my grey one. It rates a 'meh'. I've had the same...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

GREAT get-up, Dinerman!! Good memory, Rusty. Mine's the same - shown below. Because it's basically shantung (albeit vintage) it took a while for me to admit to myself that I like this hat as much as I do. The shape of the whole hat is perfect and I even like the very light, almost white, hue...

Young hatter in need of guidance.

Welcome, 2many'. I say follow your instincts about getting into vintage fedoras. As a size 7-7-1/8 you should be able to do well price-wise on Ebay. I believe others when they relate the virtues of modern makes, but I wouldn't trade one of my '40s Stetsons for all of the Akubras in the world. :)

Ask a question, get an answer

Your photos are good - as is the hat. I would list it on Ebay and let the images do the selling. 'Fuzzies' aren't for everyone but those who know vintage fedoras and are into them would probably prize this sample, in a size 3/8 at that. I'd guess late '50s/early '60s judging by the styling...

    Nice hats at Tombstone, AZ

Good photos! I was there a couple years ago and had a super time in both Tucson and Tombstone. The hats are fine but a couple of those fellas need to have their coat sleeves taken up a bit. Seems that could get in the way of yer gun-slingin', y'know? :)
