I am a Templar and have a badge and ring with the emblem. {Masonic}
Never fought a fire in my life. [thank goodness]

But.. I know nothing about the Grail.

Actually that is a symbol of the Knights of Malta.

The cross shown is not particular to the Fire Department(not actually quite the correct one)and quite common on vented Derbies. Academic data about particular crosses is also readily available. The Fire Department actually use St. Florians rather than the Maltese Cross. Naturally an off-duty fireman can wear anything he likes. Could have belonged to a Knight Templar guarding the Holy Grail.

The first fire brigade wore the Maltese cross. The modern cross firemen wear is based off of it. I can post the history of the cross if you like. I do have a bit of a conection here. The leather NY fire helmet was designed from the bowlers that they use to wear.

Sure, we're a curious bunch. Let's see what you have. And since your argument is that the holes on your hat are not related to ventilation, why not move this discussion to one of the threads devoted to this particular topic?

Karl Halfmann Melone

I received this Karl Halfmann Melone a couple days ago. It has some ribbon and binding damage but very high quality. Has to be 1930s or older.

Custom made Bee Hats

Cap Lot

Just got these off-season hats for very little. The two on the right side are too small(7-1/8). The other three(that fit) are a Christie's Viyella Lightweight Wool, Cavanagh and Shandon.

These are my first 2 proper Panama hats. I got a Cuenca llano fino 3/4 grade in a Rio Plata block the second is a Montecristi mediofino in a Caballero block. Tell me what you think about the brim or if I should work on the front to make it a bit more fedoraish.

As I was waiting for the images to load, and I saw them one by one, my first impulse on seeing your Cuenca (which is an excellent-looking hat, by the way) was that you needed to snap the brim.

However, the last image with you wearing it changes my opinion. You wear it well as is.

Mystery Bowler (Melone)

This Bowler (Melone) doesn't have any company mark but probably of German orgin. The felt might have some wool content and is on the softer side which makes it very wearable. Based on the construction I would say 1920s or older.

Got my first real fedora yesterday morning. It's a 100% rabbit "Stefeno" purchased from "the hat guys" in Downtown Oakland. Great store, spent about an hour trying on Dobbs, Borsalinos, and finally settled on this one. The color is just perfect. Rich olive green in the sun, almost a very dark brown in shadows.
