I was used to getting comments on my hats, and now my ties are fair game.
Today I decided to wear a vintage tie to work. One of my colleagues, who only wears the latest High Street has to offer, saw my tie and commented "What is with that tie? It looks like it went out of style 50 years...
Wow - that is horrible. I hope that Duke pulls through!
I hate to see an animal suffer because of human ignorance or cruelty.
We had our neighbours poison our black lab. There was nothing we could do about it.
Our Easter is later than Catholic/Protestant Easter, so we'll be celebrating Easter on the 23rd of April this year.
We usually go back to the "old country" to celebrate Easter with family, but this year we'll be in jolly old England. My wife's mum is flying over to spend it with us, so...
It isn't just American craftsmanship - it is dying out in Europe as well. I might be generalisng, but it seems that anywhere you go, the people you described who worked hard to master their trade are disappearing, and no one is taking their place as it is no longer feasible. We've evolved into...
Ahh, its always one who ruins it for the rest of us... Now we'll all be expected to work to 100!!! ;)
No, just joking around. That is an amazing story - good on him for hanging on for so long!
I tuned in late to this thread, but here it goes...
Several years ago I worked late shifts in a business park (Cherrywood if anyone is familiar with it) just outside Dublin. As I lived in the city and didn't own a car, I was at the mercy of Dublin Bus and their creative approach to...
I kinda like 'em short, now that I'm used to seeing them in context.
It is today's modern, stiff-as-a-board, long ties that look strange now!
Even my wife agrees with me. Her dad was from a generation where they wore "classic" ties with high-waisted trousers.
When she moved to the...
Some very good suggestions there.
They are all things that I had to learn on my own, as I was not listening when someone tried to explain them to me!
I think that being discretion is a valuable skill. No one likes or trusts a blabbermouth or gossiper.
Confidence in yourself is very...
I'd have to say that after much deliberation, my favourite film of all time is "Lost In Translation".
I'm a big Bill Murray fan, and my wife and I have often been in similar situations as the film's protagonists.
That being said, I'm not a faded action film star, and my wife isn't a...
You folks that wake up before 06:00... that is some serious discipline!
I consider it to be unnatural (for me at least) to get up any earlier than 6:00! That was the wake-up time for me for my school years. I've done it so long that it is no great shakes, but any earlier - no thanks...
I decided to forgo the burn test (thanks anyway but I would've started the London Fire of '06 with my luck) and attacked the offending stains with a mixture of a Woolite-esque substance and water.
It worked pretty well. I didn't douse the whole tie, just the stains. I then stretched it out...
Here is a pic of a recently acquired vintage Haband tie, with a big, cursive "M" (for Matei?):
Thanks to Salv for pointing this one out to me when it was on everyone's fave auction site...
As it is a vintage tie, it is quite short. It is in great shape. There were a few wee stains...
