Depps hats are vintage and only similar to those sold on that site. He has also been wearing them a lot longer that the current fad and is probably annoyed to be included in that group of poseurs (just as I often am). And I don't understand your point Flipper, does that mean I too don't have...
That's a pretty broad generalization of 11,586 people. I myself have several "beaters" that I love to wear. Especially my dark gray Stetson Vita-felt with the hole at the pinch. For the most part I wear 'em as I got 'em. ;)
Yes, I'd put all those into the Dieselpunk room, especially the Batman animated series. The old Fleischer Superman cartoons also have a nice Dieselpunk feel. The most perfect example still has to be Sky Captain though.
I'm in this club too. Straight, jaunty, brim up, brim down, high, low whatever I want and feel like. I think that until you can have a comfort level like this with the hat you will never really approach the way hats were used in the golden era.
I think we tend to way over think this stuff...
I still see them here in Houston, on either an old timer or the rockabilly crowd.
And I know that the tie Col. Sanders wore isn't a bolo, but what are those called anyway? A bowtie with tails?
I've always noticed that in many photos of people in their yards in the 50's there is usually not much going on. Lots of grass right up to the house and some shrubs.
I'm kinda with MBH on this one too. And while I know some of you feel the need to be immersive, I have no problem cruising down the road in fedora, loop collar shirt, high waisted slacks while listening to The Subways at maximum volume. It's all good.
