Age appropriate dress for your chosen era?

I don't really worry about whether something is age appropriate or not, I just wear if it looks good and is comfortable, I am 23, so any vintage clothing I put on is probably going to make me look more sophisticated, and there for a little bit older, which is good, since in trendy clothing I...

Gloves: sizing, etiquette and all other stuff

I have the opposite problem of many people, my fingers are too slender ( Size 4.5 ring), so the best gloves for are generally the ones from the Edwardian era and the 1920's, but some from 1950's and 1940's work. Does anyone have any gloves from the Edwardian Era or the 1920's, I've been...

    Vintage Manicures

Historically correct nail polish colors? What were the historically correct nail polish colors for the 1920's-1940's? I am thinking red, but what other colors did they use? Any pinks?

Handmade vintage price v/s Readymade vintage

Lady Day, I wasn't arguing with you, I was just stating what I personally do, and my personal philosophies behind myself wearing vintage clothing which are really a offspring from my love of history, which does not at all dictate what I think others should do. I think people's reasons for...

Handmade vintage price v/s Readymade vintage

Yes, but it still was not made in that era, worn by people of that era, and survived to this era. I think people to do some amazing vintage recreations, but these items just don't have the history attached. Vintage clothing is more about clothing for me, its about having a piece of history, a...

Handmade vintage price v/s Readymade vintage

The only problem with me, is that ready made vintage isn't really "vintage". To me, there is something about wearing a authentic garment from an era to really feel like you are a part of living history. Authenitc vintage maybe more expensive to buy/maintain, but it is worth it to me.

Are you more of a vintage girl, or a modern girl?

You really have a great talent! :) Your dresses that you have made on your website are absolutely marvelous, they must take so much work.I love all of the Victorian/18th century gowns. You should be getting paid big bucks in Hollywood to do what you do. Makes we wish I could sew...

Moving to LA: yay or nay?

San Rafael is a great city, full of diversity and stuff to do, Marin on the whole is a great place, very beautiful, but the house prices are insanely high. I recently saw a one bedroom, one bathroom fixer upper in a real estate magazine, they said " A bargain a only $999,000!", the rent in SF is...

Different types of dresses in the 1930's? How to dress for each one?

Ahhh ok, so a lot of people that have been listing "house dresses" on Ebay, have actually been listing " Day dresses" and visca versa. Hey, Does anyone have any links/scans of any 1930's catalogs? I'd love to see what women were wearing then....

    Face Powder Face Off

If you have dry skin, you don't need powder since your skin does not produce a lot of oil, which leads to shine, and it might be doing more harm then good. Powder just sits on dry skin and does not absorb and might clog your pores. If you have dry skin, a good foundation is all you need, and...

the adventures of starla, vintage newbie

Welcome!! Not sure how I exactly got into vintage, but I started in kind of an unlikely and expensive place, aquiring dresses from the 1920's, after I had collection of about 15 of them, and was wearing them on a daily basis, I recognized that other eras might be a little more durable and a...
