Tom Smith's memorial to Jim Henson, "A Boy and His Frog," always makes me cry.
If we can suggest showtunes that make me bawl like a schoolgirl, I'd also offer "I Dreamed a Dream" and "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from "Les Miz."
I dare you to listen -- TO LISTEN -- to the lyrics of "I...
US fans occasionally mention the SF con in the US where John Nathan-Turner was one of the guests, and he was a judge at the costume competition. One fellow came out wearing a white T-shirt screen-printed with "Generic BBC monster" and Nathan-Turner reportedly stood up, enraged, and yelled at the...
We must have an adult beverage together some time. :)
How about scruff-ish?
I got tired of the two-day-beard-is-cool thing halfway through the first season of "Miami Vice." And we know how long ago THAT was. Jeez.
My favorite oldie is the Auburn boat-tail speedster (as in my avatar at left).
It was my dad's first car, and I really want one -- even if it has to be a fiberglass replica.
Man, I'm with those of you who miss *real* (= glass) Christmas tree ornaments. I, too, killed off many when I was a kid, but some of them were so artful. There were actually sculpted, seemingly hand made and hand painted, ornaments I remember from my childhood that I would kill for now. :(
Oh...
A few years ago I discovered Irving Hancock's "Dick Prescott" -- a classic middle American teen, one of several friends in the early 19-teens -- in one book of his series, Dick Prescott's First Year at West Point (available, conveniently, at Project Guttenberg, and you can read it on your...
Even with the logical flaws, I love that flick.
I can appreciate the story, and I can appreciate the technical achievement that film represents. I can also appreciate the difficulty of acting against.... nothing. That's not easy to do.

Indeed, thank you for the update.
I've heard back from my friend up in the north, and the family is okay.
We've apparently lost some folks who had homes in or around Fukushima and Soma, though. :(
My cousin the former JAL exec and I are still hoping to visit Japan next year.
Henry VIII was a bit chunky, too... Apparently these producers have a fondness for casting more "visually appealing" men in the roles of gentlemen of "deluxe economy size."
Sigh.
I guess I'll have to console myself with the boobies. ;)
I have to say... having endured their production of "The Tudors," the historian in me weeps bitter tears at this production. I have little faith that it will be anything but gratuitous sex, over the top politics, and glitzy and inaccurate clothing and sets.
Basically, it will be pretty crap...
Sorry for the interjection -- but that's a great question.
I actually GOT -- well, had -- my dream job. When I was in high school and college, I played Dungeons and Dragons. A LOT. I really wanted to be editor of Dragon Magazine. After a long, circuitous rout that found me majoring in...
I recently quit smoking, and have retired my pipes and paraphernalia.
But I'd like to make a few suggestions.
You can't go wrong with a navy flake. MacBarren's Navy Flake, Orlick's Golden Sliced, and Peter Stokeby's Navy Flake are almost identical, and are all wonderful, soft, and almost...
