    Classic small-town movie theatres

There's a wonderful old theatre here in Franklin called "The Artcraft" -- my grandfather built it. :) They show classic movies two days a week, now. The theatre really is a thing of beauty, and of times gone by. This week they're showing "An Affair to Remember" (I love Cary Grant!) and next...

    Classic One Liners and Quotes

From a noir whose title has been forgotten: "We'll just have to wait. They say patience is a virtue." "Who says that?" "Patient, virtuous people?"

Whatever happened to "coat and tie required"?

    Indeed (to quote Teal'c).

    Custom Oil Paintings

Excellent. Thanks. I'll be moving into the new house in about 4-6 weeks, so I'll be getting in touch once I have an idea of what wall spaces I need to inflict art on. :) Tony

    Chrysler "Style" Commercial

I recall that when he was young, my dad's first car (he was born in 1912) was an Auburn boat-tail speedster. I've decided that if I sell the next book and get enough bux, I'm going to be buying a replica one, also in green like his. Hell, I live in one of the houses he built -- might as well...

    The Cap Faction

My, but I loved that show. :) Now I can't read the books without picturing Fry and Laurie.

    Chrysler "Style" Commercial

I almost feel like that commercial was a bait-and-switch. But the general tone of it -- the message -- was something I could get behind and agree with. It's just their... ah, execution... that causes me to twitch a bit. Tony

20 Obsolete English Words that Should Make a Comeback

I frequently get e-mails from people asking for my help on some research project or other, and more often than not they are semi-literate, run-on sentences with "OMG!" and so forth in them. This is not how I was raised. If one wishes to ask for help or information, but doesn't take the few...

20 Obsolete English Words that Should Make a Comeback

Ah, a very homespun expression. Hey, whatever happened to "homespun"? Don't hear that too often these days, either. Very much to the point, too, is today's "Pearls Before Swine":

20 Obsolete English Words that Should Make a Comeback

    I kind of like "whippersnappers."

    Custom Oil Paintings

I thought something like this might be perfect for my new study in my new house, but the website is "disabled." Any news on the business? Tony

But we can still fight the good fight and go down listening to the band.

Oh, hey.... How about "a doxie with the moxie"? ;)

    The Cap Faction

Ah, excellent. I was hoping it was something like that. So a charcoal herringbone cap, for example, would be okay with a grey checked tweed coat...? Tony (Planning a shopping spree)

20 Obsolete English Words that Should Make a Comeback

Oh, my... I use that one all the time. :) And the problem *I* have with the word "broad" is it tends to get applied too often to the seat of my pants. :(

    The Cap Faction

You know, I've often wondered about these caps -- What are the "rules" regarding caps in herringbone or some plaid-ish pattern being worn with tweed or plaid-ish coats? Should they match? Should one avoid a gray cap with a brownish coat, and vice-versa? Should one try to match caps with coats...
