How to... get the grown-up vintage look

I agree with BenStephens and Miss Neecerie. It's just the normal buzz word and focused on the fashion populous as a whole. I kind of like their take on mixing vintage in to our normal wardrobe. I so seldom see vintage around here that I get a kick out of seeing someone toting a vintage purse...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Totally. I was trying to think of how they would heat the edges just to melt it a bit to hold the shape and that makes total sense.

Ditto above. It's probably some crazy kind of tightly knitted (or woven) synthetic. If you spaced them out more you could do a facing (like a bound buttonhole), but that tightly together, you'd have to do a super tiny bias facing and I think it would distort.

It's very pretty! Congrats! I'm guessing it's late 40s to 50s, but I could be mistaken. [huh]

Hey, neat! I have this one, too. I made it up, but changed the opening to a button front. It's a really awesome pattern. Congrats!!

I *finally* won a McCall pattern catalog after wanting one for YEARS! I'm turning 30 in under a month, so I figure it's an early birthday present to myself :D :D :D I really didn't expect to win it, and then at the last minute my computer froze up, so I thought my bid didn't go through but it...

I love this! Aww.. please don't move it... I don't even venture out of the Powder Room anymore and I'd forget to check! I kinda like looking at it for inspiration like Miss Neecerie says. Maybe guys should just start one too?

    Paris fashion advice..thankyou

Ooh! I wish I was going! We were there last year and I wore mostly wide leg pants (in linen and in narrow cordoroy) with button down short sleeve shirts and cardigans. I had a somewhat tailored looking blazer I threw on over everything for evenings. It was mostly warm when we were there...

    Slips!

I second that! Slips always make skirts and dresses sit better. I have just gotten used to wearing slips, so even if modern skirts/dresses have linings I wear a half slip. I don't like the material modern slips are made out of (a few of the ones I have are static monsters so somewhat defeat...

Thanks, gals! MarieAnne, it's not straight from the hip- it flares a little bit at the hem... kind of somewhere between a pencil skirt and an A line skirt, I guess. The buttons are what got me :)

Oooh... I love the skirt pattern. It's so hard to find nice 30s skirt patterns with a bit of interest.

    Vintage Buttons Yay!!

Ooh! That's so nice of you! I'm waiting on my fabric to get here, then I'm going to decide on a pattern, but it's going to be more of a day/afternoon frock I think. :D
