STUNNING. I love the dress, and I've had a McCall "fashion book" like that on my wish list for years. Good finds!

What Are Your Thoughts On This?

It could be the way it's drawn. I've seen similar ensembles in high fashion photo shoots from Vogue in the late 30s and 40s. Does it give a date or designer in the book?

Love the tennis dress, swinggal! I had this on my watch list all week and was really surprised I won it! Yippee! I even have the perfect fabric in the stash. Now, just to work up the ambition to make something tailored again... haven't tackled any suits since last year. lol

    Dita Von Teese

A lot of authentic vintage looks somewhat strange or "costumey" to the modern eye, so I totally understand the way she's styled. From a fashion standpoint I think what she does is fabulous. Not really my thing per se, but extremely well done and very artistic.

    Dita Von Teese

Miss Neecerie sums up what I feel about Dita very well. I think she does her job great, but I'm not altogether sure how I feel about how she has made "vintage" appear to the normal person with an interest in fashion. I think it's a good way to get people interested in vintage, but what she...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Score! I'm not sure if you can but them. To be honest I never use mine. I use the hem marker that stands alone and you can puff a chalk line on to mark my hems. But I've got one hip that's a little higher than the other, so it would make my hems wonky if I used the attached thing as a guide...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Fleur, I had a robe I did a similar thing with... I ended up using the extra skirt length to cut and piece a new bodice where mine was really worn. Maybe you could do something similar if you have enough fabric? http://wearinghistory.blogspot.com/2010/05/make-do-and-mend-big-apple-dress.html

    Custom Printed Fabric

I did, but it was a different major than mine. They had a whole textile design major. I wish they would have included at least a little of it!

    Custom Printed Fabric

I'm also anxious to try this, but I haven't figured out the perfect project yet. Lots of ideas bouncing around in my head, but then when I think of how much it would cost I loose steam. Eventually, though, I'd love to try it.
