Why I do not recommend Simmons Bilt Type B-7 parka

It's a pity the OP was unhappy. Dealings I've had with SB have resulted in a) a great custom reproduction of a 70's jacket and b) a really great Klondike in goat. I bought these because they were significantly different from Aeros, although for any similar-looking design, I'm an Aero man. I...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Wore the Work Coat to work and then slopped about in a Café Racer in the late afternoon in unseasonably cold Hong Kong. The Vicenza Blackened Brown one is slightly too big, the tan one (worn a while ago) is slightly too tight, but weight loss is slowly happening...

Leather jackets & business casual environment

A button front jacket would work. A Maxwell, Stockman, 1920's Work Coat - all good. Simmons Bilt Klondike goes well with formal trousers.

    Aero Teamster Issues and Questions

It all looks pretty normal to me. I get creases like that in Aeros (and probably Simmons Bilts if they were heavier hides). The 'x' creases are from sitting in a longer jacket a lot (probably). I get that effect when I'm flying long haul on my Maxwell and Work Coat. Vaseline is unlikely to...

    Burning Loose thread

Leather doesn't burn from a half-second exposure to a small flame from (e.g. a lighter). I don't recommend or discourage quick-burning a loose thread - clipping it off might be better - but I've not seen any damage. Others might disagree, but it's never damaged a jacket I've owned. I did it...

    Burning Loose thread

It won't do any damage. I've done this over 15 years and never seen a problem. Most leather jackets have hidden internal stitching and one surface thread doesn't lead to an unravelling (that I've seen). This has been true on sleeves, collars and internal panels. No need to worry.

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I want to get a size 44 Aero Café Racer in a lightish-coloured battered tan. I cut enough weight to zip up my old size 42, but a 44 is more comfortable. I'll go for nickel Universal zips and a black cotton drill if I decide on it. I've got two size 42 CRs that are a squeeze, and I've become...

One Leather Jacket to keep rest of your life?

Brown Aero Highwayman. First jacket that I ever bought, and still the best. A close second would be the Maxwell in tumbled cordovan. I really think that these are Aero's best two patterns. If I could alter anything about the Highwayman, it would be the weight of the hide - I'd definitely...

If you had to choose only one leather jacket...

Probably an Aero CR in tan steer hide as it doesn't fit (yet).

Advice please on the slimmest fit Café racer brown leather jacket (Like … Highwayman, Schott 141., or other like) & what size to get?

Be careful with Aero Café Racer sizing. Based on my first measurements, I got a size 40 which was too tight, although ok across the shoulders. Gave it to a buddy. I sized up for my second one - a 42 - which worked ok (just about) as long as it was worn over a thin t-shirt.. The next one I...

#8 Shell Cordovan boots w/dark Brown Jacket?

Not sure. Personally, I would only wear cordovan footwear on its own, with no other leather. Browns go together, blacks go together, desert suede footwear goes with anything.

Seeking the Holy Grail of Leather: In Quest of the Perfect Asymmetrical Jacket

^ This. Black goat or black jerky. I'd go with goat.

It's amazing how much weight can be lost through no alcohol. I get similar results :)

    Show your graining

Yes, I wish I just had three. In a perfect world, a CR, a Maxwell and a Highwayman.

Seeking the Holy Grail of Leather: In Quest of the Perfect Asymmetrical Jacket

Jerky horsehide. It's the most pliable, nicely-draping leather they have (that I've owned). It will show wear quickly and it will wear down to a russet base coat. If you don't want the wearing-off effect, get black Vicenza. It's slightly stiffer, has a drier hand and similar grain to goat.

This leather looks interesting. Anyone know what it is?

Think I found it... https://leather4craft.co.uk/shop/badalassi/badalassi-carlo-wax/badalassi-wax-carlo-pull-up-leather-bone-1-2-1-4-mm-thick/ The paler tones are great. Hmmm....

This leather looks interesting. Anyone know what it is?

I need to find a company that will make me a jacket in this sort of pale leather. This would make me very happy. I do not like the natural or unfinished hides, but this I like. J.

This leather looks interesting. Anyone know what it is?

It's a horsehide which looks like a lighter version of Aero's battered tan HH. I would definitely order a Deluxe HB or LHB in this. It's the mutt's nuts (although I appreciate that not everyone is going to dig it).

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

The shoulder seam wear is just from carrying a canvas bag around - it really does wear down quickly.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Plainsman in black jerky HH. Upsides are that this is a pliable leather and easy to wear. Possible downside is that the topcoat wears down much more quickly than any other type of leather I've handled (see cuff edge). I think it will look great after a year or so, but I wonder if the topcoat...
