I'm lucky not to have had this experience with any makers so far. I had a Stockman that was too big, but I hadn't sized down. I kept it for years and years and just layered.
About five months ago. Sizing is a really tricky thing - I have limited (although also very long term) experience of professional tailoring. It is always better to get measured in person. Without that, sizing and fitting are professional judgement calls at absolute best. People tend to take...
Yes, I got a boatload of samples (for free) from SB. The Blattwerk Mahogany is a fantastic colour: I'm thinking about an SBV2 in it. The Klondike I got from SB is my best-fitting jacket, although the SB finish isn't quite as good as Aero's - a tailor here was so impressed that he got me to...
It's still a favourite. I got the normal black jerky - you can tell that in a year or two it'll look properly vintage. The worn down edges go beige/brown, not orange, as the black topcoat gets imprinted into the russet base. If in any doubt, go with blackened brown Vicenza - there's not much...
Hello,
I'll get these up when there's some good lighting. The base layer is russet and wears down to a beige/brown. The Plainsman itself is a really cool pattern which goes with anything. Jerky is a great hide with good drape and softness, although it's as durable as any of the other medium...
I've been wearing the hell out of my Plainsman in black jerky. I thought it would go russet-y as it wore through, but it's more a sandy base when the black dye gets worn off and impacted into it. I'll post some pictures later - I'm looking forward to its development.
Simmons Bilt black goat Klondike. Olive stitching, chest pocket altered to remove outer cording, wrist cuffs omitted; straight line finish. Triangular patches added to chest and hand warmers pockets. Inner pocket is made of the olive cotton lining, not leather faced. Brown corozo buttons. This...
A 50s Half-Belt in seal goat. I omitted the chest pocket and opted for olive stitching. Goat is still one of the best Aero hides for different weather conditions - my SB Klondike is also a goatskin jacket and is similarly great.
That's a good point and part of the cycle. I am really happy whenever I quit smoking and then someone mentions dark tobacco and/or rum and I feel deprived. If I surrender to the deprivation, it takes me two or three months to quit the smoking again.
Jackets are interesting - the Cordovan...
Nowadays, a cordovan Maxwell (tumbled, fqhh) gets most wear overall as I can wear it into work on colder days. Outside of work, a brown Highwayman (brown fqhh); there was a three-year period where I wore it for entire Shanghai winters.
If I had my 'buying time' again, I'd have gotten a brown...
To me, it's phases. I go through phases where I buy two or three in a year, then nothing. I drink in phases, too. Smoking was at a constant low level from kid to now (I smoked about 6 -8 a day, on some days, for three decades, then it went up to 15 a day for six months, then I quit).
I am...
Easy fix is to use a small bit of sail tape. It has an adhesive side and is thin enough not to interrupt the zip's functioning. That amount of fraying probably isn't a worry, though.

I now have ten Aeros and a Simmons Bilt. I have one Rogue Territory Supply Jacket, one Pike Bros. Deck Jacket and a Carhartt Detroit. I also have three tailor-made overcoats and a Jermyn Street raincoat.
I have about fifteen pairs of shoes and boots, more than a third of which are handmade...
