I think that I like Jackie Kennedy's dress best. I really think it's beautiful in its simplicity, like a goddess dress. And the creamy yellow color is so understated, yet so striking.
A lot of the gowns I missed were not because I couldn't reconize the era the gown was made in, but because I couldn't remember who the president would have been at the time! lol
Was Laura Bush's gown ugly or what? Talk about dowdy.
I also thought the hand-painted insect pattern on Martha...
Here's a fun quiz, match the first ladies to their inagural gowns:

It's worth taking the quiz, just to look at the gowns. I thought Jackie Kennedy's gown, Florence...
Lighter fluid is really good for removing old paint as well.
It also works really well to remove price tags and labels that people stick on the covers of old books/papers/boxes. It removes the tag without ripping the cover/paper/cardboard and it dries quickly and doesn't leave a mark
The Remix Ginger Pumps are on sale for $55.00 (normally $184.00) on this website:

I ordered my last pair of Remix shoes from this site and they have great customer service and super fast shipping. They also have large sizes...
I think the buttons and belt are original. I've seen pairings like that before.
Plus, the belt loops are black. If the original belt was another color, the loops would have been made in a color to match so they wouldn't stand out.
If the dress is acetate, I'd also say it's from the 1950s...
I was just looking at a pattern for a pence jug on knitty. :)

The mittens are from the mitten pattern on this page:

The finger holes are pretty simple to make when you knit in the round. You...
I don't have any pictures of my knitting, except for a pair of mittens that I finished not too long ago:
I copied these from a surviving pair of 18th century mittens. They are constructed the same as the extant pair, except I added the garter stitch cuff to keep the cuffs from rolling up...
Cables are so easy, especially the basic ones pictured. Once you figure out how to do them, you'll kick yourself for not learning sooner. All you need is a cable needle.
I have the same problems when I use acrylic yarn. It stretches out and will not go back. I think it's more a problem with the yarn, not the knitter. I think natural fiber yarn has much more spring to it and it will stretch back. Even blends seem to be much more forgiving than all arcylic...
I think my lifestyle is similar to Lauren's. I would say 85% of the things in my house are vintage/antique, but they are a mishmash of eras (and centuries!) because I love such a wide range. I do 1790s living history/reenactments at a historical home and I take pleasure in the fact that all of...
I would say that hat is mid-60s. It reminds me of the mod hats that Audrey Hepburn wore during that period. Here's a similar hat she wears in a picture dated 1966.
