Wow, very cute hats. Thanks for sharing. She definitely "gets it." This one made me think of mojito: I think I'm in love with this hat: https://id307.securedata.net/lisashaub.com/merchantmanager/images/2005_yoji_lrg.jpg But I'm saving up to have one of these bonnets made for the living...

Bakelite and Catalin are two different plastics, but are both commonly referred to as Bakelite. All of the "Bakelite" jewelry that you see is actually Catalin. Bakelite was generally only used for electrical appliances, handles on pots and coffee pots, etc. because it will not melt. Bakelite has...

Show us what you have Crafted!

This is Dutch, I finished him last night: He's a little wonky because my sewing machine stopped working about halfway through making him and I finish a lot of him by hand. I consider the wonkiness to be part of a sock monkey's charm. I made this box from a 1930s pattern that was torn up and...

What did families of the fourties have on their walls?

Mary - You wouldn't happen to know what color your friend painted the walls in this picture, would you? :) http://farm1.static.flickr.com/85/253713972_bd01d1d54a.jpg?v=0 This is the exact color I've been looking for to paint my living room in, but all the colors I've found are too muddy or...

What did families of the fourties have on their walls?

I love the Turner tropical bird/flamingo prints that were already mentioned. I have a mirror similiar to this one hanging above the fireplace in my bedroom: I think I paid $50.00 for this about 12 years ago. I thought that was pretty steep at the time, but I really liked it and had a much...

1920s - fashion with fun, whimsy and chic

I have a necklace almost exactly like this but the beads are red and black. It needs to be re-strung. I'm afraid to wear it because I'm afraid it will break and I'll loose all the lovely beads. I don't know how to re-string it myself, so it sits in my jewelry box. One of these days, I need...

If I had to pick one girl from the golden era

For lack of a better term, I think Barbara Stanwyck had moxie and it showed. And she had a brain to match. Her career started in 1930 and she worked until the 1980s. How many golden era stars can make the same claim?

    What are you wearing today??

I have a friend who can't stand using moustache wax, so he uses Elmer's glue. He claims that it gives all of the hold, but none of the stickiness. :)

    Pre-Code Hollywood New Releases.

Maureen O'Sullivan was completely nude in the infamous swim scene from Tarzan. While I don't remember any full frontal nudity, it didn't leave much to the imagination.

    Wuthering Heights (2009)

Hubby and I did the same thing while watching Wuthering Heights. "And now for the very first time on the silver screen comes the film from two books which once shocked a generation. From Emily Brontë's 'Wuthering Heights' and from the 'International Guide to Semaphore Code'. Twentieth Century...

Does anyone know how the sizes run for Layers clothing? Are they smaller like junior sizes or are they more like misses sizes? The sizes are so small at a lot of these trendy clothing stores, I never know what to expect.
