    Akubra Overload

After reading my last post I do want to say that my Silver Spur is not all beat up and worn out. I just happened to notice some signs of wear. I don't want to make the impression that Akubras wear out quickly. I wear my hats hard and this one is just starting to look "not factory fresh". It...

    Akubra Overload

I just ordered my second Silver Spur from EA. The BOTP is no longer on the site or I'd order one of those too. My first Silver Spur is starting to show some age. Almost a year old and is surviving it's first Iowa summer. Getting some slight salt marks and sweat stains. Along with some other dirt...

Do any of you guys follow any type of hat etiquette?

If a bear farts in the woods...?

    Collecting akubras

I've seen this picture before and love it! Looks like some of my old hats. I have a few old stetsons looking like that. Someday my Akubras will look the same. Nothing better than a beat up ol' Akubra! Except maybe a box on your doorstep.

Akubra Snowy River: Could someone measure hat's OPEN-crown height for me?

Mine is measuring 5 1/4". Keep in mind that along with a short crown this hat also has a lot of taper. I haven't been able to bash anything that looks good to me. I've moved on to other Akubras that have more crown. The taper makes it harder to bash more than the low height does. There just...

    Akubra Campdraft

The only thing I don't like about the Campdraft is the snap/flanged brim. I wouldn't have a problem with it if my head was more round but my extra long oval makes the brim snap too much. A flat brim would snap enough on my head. Wish they made a Campdraft with a normal brim. I'd buy a few more.

    Akubra Overload

I like my CD ribbon width but I sure would like to try that out. Seems like a good fit. Maybe even on a Boss of the Plains. I'd go for that.

    Akubra Overload

I guess I'll have to make room in my budget for another Silver Spur and BOTP. In my opinion these are two of Akubra's best hats. Why the downsize? This really sucks! Akubra is the only hat company I feel I can put any money into and get a good hat in return. Custom hats cost too much if you ask...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

No hat today. 20+ mph winds. Been the norm lately. I need to move.

Need help in buying a hat that is not uncomfortable for the forehead

This place needs a "like" button.

How can you 'age' a hat? PLEASE Help....

I would wet the felt with a spray bottle or even your shower and then take it on and off your head over and over grabbing hard at the crown to really set the crease. Do this now and then until the felt dries. This would also give the slightly off center and leaning front pinch. I've done this to...

    Hat Weigh-in

This is a fun thread. I went out and got a kitchen scale at walmart for 20 bucks. I don't have pictures but my Akubra Campdraft with liner removed size 60 is 4.5oz. My heaviest hat is my custom Mackey with 4 1/4 brim size 59 weighing in at 8.7oz.

    Western, anyone?

I love that mustard color! I wish Akubra made hats in that color. I can't afford another custom right now and honestly I think Akubras are just as good or better than some modern beaver hats. I've only had two custom pure beavers though. One Mackey and one Montana Peaks. My Mackey is by far the...

    Akubra size question

I ordered my Cattleman in my actual size and it became pretty tight. After some time on the hat jack it fits fine again but it's such a heavy hat. I got a Campdraft and a Silver Spur a size big and wear them the most now. They fit fine after some steam from shaping and are a lot lighter weight...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

No hat again today when I wake up. Too windy. Tired of the wind. Most days anymore the winds are 15-20mph and up. Only a few of my hats have wind strings and I don't really like those hats. I'm Tired of always holding them down or walking with my head turned and still needing to have one hand on...

    Akubra Overload

I wear mine even in 95+ heat. Yeah it's hot but with no hat on it'd still be hot. I just get used to it.

    Akubra Overload

We've gotten a ton of rain here in east Iowa and a lot more to come. My Silver Spur has been doing a fine job shedding the heavy rain and hail. No shrinkage at all since it's initial "shrink to fit", no taper whatsoever. I will absolutely buy another. It's nice to have a hat that just seems to...

    Leather sweat band care?

Well I am now taking my wax paper out of my Camp Draft. My sweat stains always develope on the bottom of the brim first from the sweat running down the band and soaking into the felt. The barrier will only make that worse. darn!

    Leather sweat band care?

Wax paper actually seems like a good idea. I just put a piece in my Camp Draft. We'll see how that works this summer. I bet it lasts the summer at least. Not sure if it will trap in heat though. Will it just trap moisture in the sweatband and cause rot? Maybe I wont try this...

    Musician's hats

Tom Petty has worn some nice looking hats through the years. If I had desktop internet I'd post some pics. I've seen him in a lot of old west style hats along with his top hat style. He tends to tame the top hat image down to a nice old west movie bandit looking top hat as seen in the "you got...
