Maybe it's the same color as the "fawn" Sombrero. It's called fawn but it's actually much darker than other fawn Akubras I've owned. The Sombrero and squatter are both made with the "superfine" felt so there could be some relation. If it is the same color, it's pretty dark brown with a green tone.
They both look good on you. I don't know how you can send one back after getting both of them. I'd be too attached and would end up with two more hats.
Are those "sand" or "light sand"? My sand Woomera is more greyish. Almost like a light chocolate milk color. Yours seem more like actual sand...
Last night a teenage boy was staring at my hat while waiting to be seated with his family. We were paying our bill and on our way out. As I passed by he told me that he liked my hat. He seemed nervous about giving the compliment. I was wearing my Akubra Silver Spur. It's a bit worn and stained...
The brim looks to be around 3 inches. 3 1/4 maybe. Looks like the edge is bound. He's got it snapped up probably to keep it out of the way of his camera.
I almost never see people remove their hats in restaurants or anywhere else. Would you remove your hat in Subway? Arby's? Burger King? I don't. I'd rather keep mine on even in the sit down places. Taking a hat off can cause hairs to fall on the table. That seems gross and rude to me. Ok, I do...
I've pounced all of my new Akubras with 800 grit paper. They look and feel so much better after just a light pouncing. General daily wear will smooth the finish too after about a year or so.
I watched a video someone posted a while back, must have been last winter maybe. In it they discussed a shortage of hare supply and talked about importing hare. They also mentioned that they buy wool. What would they need wool for? I really hope they aren't cutting the mix with wool or planning...
I did a pencil curl on the brim of my Campdraft. It looked pretty good but it was just too short for my liking so I ironed it out. The brim won't snap up and down with a rolled brim but it should stay in the position you want it. Being a long oval will help keep it that way.
Frussell, that might be a little too hot even for me, I have to say. I'm comfy up to about 105 degrees with high humidity. That said, I'd much rather have the +125 than the -20's we had for daytime highs last winter! I don't mind heat but I can't stand the cold. Summer in Florida is just right...
I don't really care how much I sweat. I don't notice how wet I am untill I go inside in the a/c which I don't like to do because then I'm cold and wet. I'd rather stay out in the heat and be comfy. I live for hot weather. Some people can't stand it. I think that's all it really boils down to.
When the sun is really intense, a felt hat helps. On those hazy hot and humid days, it might not feel as nice but the rest of you won't feel nice either. I'd rather hide my sweat soaked hair with a hat and have a little shade as well.
Big beards tend to make wide brim hats look more natural. I agree with Joao anything under 3" is a fez. Haha. I think I look best with around 3 1/2" brim. I love the bigger 4 to 5" brims and wear them from time to time but they bump around and drive me crazy. They also don't look as good on me...
Last winter we had several days where it never got above -20F/-30C. Brrr! But I still only wore my fur felt Akubra. I wrapped a scarf around the lower part of my face and ears with my hat on top.
