I am also a 23 1/4" head. I am an extra long egg oval head shape. I find that 7 1/2's feel better. They are really loose at first but shrink to fit around my odd shaped head. 7 3/8 sized hats usually fit well but my long head tends to push out the sweatband flange causing the stitching to dig...
Anyway, I think the hat looks great. The glasses take away from the hat but I really dont think you were going for the perfect outfit, just showing off a great hat while wearing what you were wearing at the time. The post was about the hat and the hat looks really cool!
My fiancee really hates beards. So I grow one now and then for that reason. It's fun! She only dictates my life the other 99.9 percent of the time. A hat is easy to take on and off. A beard takes time to grow. Use it!
I like a snug fit when pulled down. Gives the option for a tighter fit if the wind should pick up. Then when the wind is gone I can slide it back to where it's comfy.
I leave mine in my car in the summer for a few hours. Size 60 shrinks to a nice fitting 59 after a while. Then they stop shrinking. I need to leave my hats in my car from time to time, for work reasons, and a hat that fits to start will be tight after time in the heat. My 60's can now be left in...
Rabbit and wild hare. Beaver is only better when Akubra is not in the picture. (true for modern hats only) Akubra felt is better than other rabbit hats and even modern pure beaver hats in my opinion. They dont feel as nice but they hold up as good or better.
I play guitar and sing in a classic rock-ish cover band. We play only about once a month or so these days. We used to play just about every weekend but I get tired of doing it when we play so often. I only wear my hats when we play country tunes and or once my hair is soaked with sweat and looks...
I was checking out at the grocery store the other day wearing my Akubra Cattleman and the nice man at the counter asked me if I've seen the movie, "The man from snowy river". He went on to explain how much he liked the movies and the look and we had a nice conversation. I should have worn my...
I just remember reading these suggestions on loads of custom hat websites. Seems like it was more of a hat care copy-paste thing. A lot of them were word for word. The Cowboy Hat Book suggests these methods as well as I recall. Could have all come from the same source??
Oh god, I really hope to see one of those in person so I can laugh inside. And maybe outside. Next thing, kids will be asking us where our snapper's gone!
I do not like resting my westerns on their crowns. Only when there is no other option. I like to hang my hats or place them on hat stands resting the weight inside the crown on telescope type crowns. I never turn out the sweat. Not sure why this is suggested so often by hatters.
Ha! I tell people who ask me why I always wear my hat, "I wear my hat just in case it makes me go bald." Or, "I wear a hat because I have hat hair!" Always get a laugh.
Great looking hat! Nice outdoor pic. Shows that character! Ive never handled a nutria quallity before. Bid on a couple on the bay a few years ago but never got one. Some day though.
I would think that only a good felt would hold up. A poor felt or modern would probably shrink back down and or become weak. Not sure about down sizing though. I have two hats that I bought a size small. They fit after putting in thinner sweats and giving them a bit of a stretch but the crowns...
