    Suits - Pre 1920

The V-shaped button-front looks very unique. I like it, in fact. I take it no one offers anything like it, nowadays?

Good or Bad Idea To Buy Vintage Clothes Now?

I stand corrected! I had as of that post, no sleep for eighteen hours, and four the previous night. I really meant 1914, so I'll go change the number. :o I don't think it would do you good to wear the same clothes every day, so you could start off with a nice suit to wear sometimes, and then...

Good or Bad Idea To Buy Vintage Clothes Now?

I think you may need to be careful, particularly with suits. Your height and/or weight may likely change soon, which would make one too small. If you find something you like at a good price, then it's up to you. I don't know about hat sizes changing after age 16, but I would start with a hat for...

That's fine, we've got preferences. I think striped ties can be nice, but I do admit they are over-saturated today, worn constantly by politicians, lawyers, and businessmen, as well as others. A striped vintage tie could still be more of a statement, though. Now, what about showing some pictures...

I'm not following one period in particular, but I personally like to wear brighter ties that stand out, as well as plain ties, although wearing any vintage tie is likely to make one stand out, somewhat. My collection does not include many stripes at all, but I certainly do wear them. I posted...

How often do you dress vintage/vintage inspired?

I voted for "When I feel like it." I do not wear actual vintage clothes for the most part except for a few elements, like my Stetson St. Regis, an early '60s Yugoslavian suit, a set of gold cufflinks, a few tie bars, and my pretty extensive collection of mostly mid-century ties and bow ties...

All four of those are very good ties. The Broadway Cravat is my favorite of that collection.

Very nice ties, Quetzal! In fact, I like all of them, good choices. Here are ties I've won today from eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/antique-neck-ties-/291273263612?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=6UUT3fujylwI8Vhe2niLGTnguSE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc...

Unfortunately, I couldn't see any of those ties. They are listed as attachments, but not images. Is it a problem from my end?

The Thread to Display Your 1940s Suits

That's an excellent suit, Roger! I hope you could have that hole repaired. Even so, it is a nice suit you should be proud to own and wear.

Thank you, everyone! What I meant by shorter jacket was just a lounge jacket in general, instead of a tailcoat or a cutaway coat. I should have been more clear, although the lounge jacket that I mentioned is also shorter by design, single-breasted and having been made around 1963 in Yugoslavia...

Does anybody have examples of Stresemann suits? I am planning to wear this style in the near future. So far, I have new mid-grey pinstriped pants, and a vintage charcoal jacket with maroon pinstripes. Do I need a waistcoat for it to be considered a Stresemann, and is a striped jacket acceptable...

Wonderful! Was the tie actually soaked, or did you wet it gently?

    Suits - Pre 1920

The illustrations do look exaggeratedly disproportionate. The legs and the feet all look long, and the waists are very slim. They still look a bit better than many of the fashion models for suits in recent times, though!

    Suits - Pre 1920

I noticed that the man on the upper right appears to be wearing a casual hat. Is it a pith helmet? On the two above suits, the sleeve buttons look to be spaced further away than they would most commonly be later. I like these suits, but I'd prefer to wear one with slightly longer trousers...

I'm 7 3/8 long oval. If I had a smaller head, I'd definitely have a larger hat collection. I've seen plenty of nice hats on eBay below my size. Thanks, it does look very formal with a white shirt and a dark charcoal grey suit. It's one of my favorites in the collection. I'm going to see if I...

    Black Four-In-Hand and Brown Shoes?

I wear black and navy ties with brown shoes, although I am uncertain as to how the customs were during the Golden Era, particularly in the United States. Decades ago in Britain, there was apparently the notion that one shouldn't wear brown in a city. I believe that this custom is outdated by...

    What are you wearing today??

Very good, everyone! Please excuse that I hide my appearance, but I am concerned about my presence online. This tie is a 1900s or 1910s tie that was delivered from eBay, yesterday. In-person, it is in fact a nice tie, if a little wrinkled and yellowed with age. It's now the oldest tie in my...

Anyone else ever "jones" for their Golden Era fix?

I enjoy watching old films and TV shows between the silent era up through the 1960s very much, and the 1970s and 1980s are also some of my favorite cinematic periods as well. Contrary to whatever popular opinions may be now, I think that TV was especially strong between the mid-1950s through the...
