I figured this would be an interesting thread. Thus, I included a poll too.

I dress vintage inspired daily. At the time of this post, I do not own any vintage clothes, except three tie clips.

Daily and 90% originals. Only a few shirts and shoes are reproductions.

I don't have any modern clothes (except some trash-wear for chores).

Not usually when I'm working (construction is hell on your clothes) or sleeping, but all the rest of the time, although I freely admit plain white T shirt and cuffed Levis or chinos for slobbing around the house sometimes. That's when the shoes can make or break the look. I own plenty of modern shoes, but NO modern style ones.

We'll have to find you some vintage overalls, and of course something with "footies" for sleep wear! LOL!

We dress around here vintage or something less vintage with vintage if that makes sense. Daniel may have a non vintage shirt with everything else vintage, etc., and for myself, I may have everything on that is vintage except a purse or accessary(s).

:)

Overalls aren't really the weapon of choice for what I do. Once, many years ago, my buddy bought some and was gonna go all "old school" at work. We were cutting a piece of steel pipe with a torch, and a hot rock jumped off and hit him in the chest, then proceeded to roll down the front of his overalls. We were young and skinny back in those days, so there was no big belly to stop it on the way down. Ouch!! Lesson learned. No overalls.

As for the footie jammies, if it gets that cold I just let the dog sleep up on the end of the bed.:p

Every day since I was 15 and four months old. That was, um, a while back . . . so I've got quite the collection of crazy threads to choose from these days. I've got about 12 or so vintage suits, plus some tailor made repros, most notably five zoot suits. Loads of shirts, shoes, trousers, loafer/Hollywood jackets, sportscoats etc, and about 300 30s-40s vintage ties.

Looks like you have a great collection ongoing. I think of all Daniel's suits or Tuxes, only one is modern made, but it is in a style of 1940-1950's by Zegna, a tux that had slim shaw lapels that as they get near the bottom where there is the closure for the front, the lapels go way out and have a sort of milk bottle shape, it is a single breasted jacket but almost appears double breasted as to how the closure it at. I spend a bundle on it, but it is sharp as a razor, and had the pants and jacket both fully tailored to fit him.

Everything else is vintage except for some shirts and some ties.

I voted for "When I feel like it."

I do not wear actual vintage clothes for the most part except for a few elements, like my Stetson St. Regis, an early '60s Yugoslavian suit, a set of gold cufflinks, a few tie bars, and my pretty extensive collection of mostly mid-century ties and bow ties. The rest of my clothes are modern-made. One of my sports jackets is a Harris Tweed dating from probably the 1970s or early '80s, and my tweed London Fog overcoat was probably made during the 1980s. There is a London Fog raincoat I have that I am completely unsure of, the "Maincoat" single-breasted model, probably from any point between the '60s through the '80s. Other clothes in my collection may be modern, but also vintage inspired, like my collection of other hats, and my two other main suits. My footwear is somewhat inspired by the 1940s through 1960s, ranging from reproduction WWII Type II Dress Shoes, to black chelsea boots, and brown suede desert boots, as well as a pair of Sperry Top-Siders' canvas slip-on shoes and another pair of navy lace-shoes.

Generally, I tend to dress up more than most. It is by habit and interest that I wear ties, sports jackets, and sometimes the hats and suits. I don't think I've ever had to wear a suit since several years ago, so I dress for myself, while taking locations, situations, and others into consideration as well.

Daily. Funny thing... I voted & it took the Daily to 66% (just me bein' me).

Anyways, Not much at all I own that is True vintage.
1923 Ingersoll Jr. pocket watch
1920's Stetson Bowler
1920's or 30's Knox Twenty
and that badly sweat stained 1940's Stetson Royal Playboy
1930's Ful-Vue frames w/ original lenses (my readin' specs)
All else is inspired or repro

I call my look vintage inspired because I only have a few true vintage items but I use the vintage look as my guide for purchasing clothes. I voted "when I feel like it" because I like to mix up my look. Some days I wear a suit and fedora but other days I may wear jeans and a polo.

Vintage inspired daily. Usually, 501 jeans, Wolverine Addison boots or saddle ring, either a T-Shirt or sweatshirt depending on weather. Cafe or Brando leather jacket riding, occasionally my Barbour wax jacket. Aviator or Clubmaster sunglasses. The most modern I get is, the occasional baseball mid sleeve shirt, and motorcycle shirts with different makes printed on them. I do wear baseball caps while working, especially if it gets hot. All of them were free over the years. I tend to wear one to death before moving on to the next. You should see my salt stained Norton!

Levi Strauss and his partner Jacob Davis obtained the patent for their blue denim "waist overalls" in May of 1873 and the "501" designation was applied in 1890, so technically I dress vintage every day. :D

But by more accurate use of the term "vintage" as defined in this thread, never. I like the clothing styles of the Golden Era, but they would look like a costume on me.

Same here. I have some modern vintage inspired hats and outerwear leather coats but that is about it.

I've always found it surprising when people speak of their clothes as a kind of costume that one might decide to wear or not. I suppose I dress in a "vintage-inspired" manner because I grew up in an immigrant community where everyone dressed in the traditional style (tweeds, woolens, etc.). As it's never gone out of style, I guess I haven't either. After all, aren't we talking about traditional styles?

I really only have a couple of clothing articles that are "vintage inspired". I have an Akubra casual fedora which I wear regularly. The other is a custom tailored shirt that my then fiancé, now wife gave me for my birthday last year. I wore it for only the second time when we got married in late spring this year. I really like the "club collar" style, it looks regal and goes with any suit. You can view it here in a wedding video I made:
