Possible Supply of Upscale Vintage Clothes Etc.

I just ran across an item in the Classifieds on mandy.com that may be of interest in this forum. The item offers wardrobe and accessories, "mint condition and/or new," circa 1940s to 2006. The ad indicates these items are part of an estate of an "elegant socialite." They provide a New York phone...

    Shoe Care / Shoe Shine

Willing to Consider an Alternative Brand? I was a longtime Kiwi user, but I've since grown fond of Lincoln shoe polish. I find it easier to work with. They have a variety of colors, in waxes and creams. Take a look at http://www.lincolnshoepolish.com/

    What Truman Said?

They Sure Know How to Live I won't make any comments about which branch is more "soldierly." I will offer the following observation, however. I stayed at the Visiting Airmen's Quarters at Clark AFB in the Phillipines while waiting for a MAC flight. (Military Airlift Command, that is.) The...

    Stars And Their Hobbies

If I Might Stretch the Meaning of Star... John Von Neumann was a star in the field of mathematics and a computer science pioneer. His hobby is also his connection to Hollywood. He owned a successful sports car dealership in Hollywood. He was also one of the first Volkswagen dealers in the USA!

#2936 San Mateo (Hillsdale Mall) The B&N on El Camino Real in San Mateo has Classic Style about eye-level on the top shelf in the Men's Interest section. There's a plentiful supply and it's prominently placed, although the shelf is designed such that the magazine in front mostly obscures the...

A fine kettle I've gotten myself into...

Definitely Revereware I, too, have been partial to Revereware kettles for many years. The model I currently use includes a button on the handle to lift the spout cover and latch it into place. That prevents steam burns while pouring.

The New Gentleman: Good News for Classic Style

There's an article in the Chronicle today by Richard Torregrossa, author of Cary Grant: A Celebration of Style. Here's an excerpt: "Although there will always be those who dress down, men's style is looking up, and there are signs of it everywhere, from new men's fashion magazines to online...

    Cowboy hats - opinions?

A few tidbits to offer... The topic's been pretty well debated by now. Since I have some cowboy heritage, I thought I ought to offer a few items for general interest. This is true, but I'd add that the Union Army was also kept quite busy by white settlers who were routinely violating...

Moving to LA: yay or nay?

Glendora? I have no patience for crowded freeways, so I go looking for my favorite boulevards when the traffic slows to a crawl. One day when I-10 got on my nerves, I hopped over to Foothill Blvd., (old Route 66,) knowing it would take me where I wanted to go. While passing through...

    Happy Birthday Kim Novak!

Beauty and talent, a powerful combination. I just watched The Man With the Golden Arm on DVD a few nights ago. Kim Novak was both seductive and innocent at the same time.

#1971 in Redwood City, CA, Has It They have it in the Men's Interest section on the middle shelf, which is about belly-level. I had to bend down to see it, but it's there. I didn't find it on any of the towers. I forgot to mention that #1944 in San Jose has Classic Style at eye level...

Moving to LA: yay or nay?

The smashburgers alone are almost reason enough to move to Oklahoma. I did say almost. I've considered myself a naturalized citizen of the Bay Area since I moved here when I was twenty-something. However, I am a native of San Diego and, for the most part, grew up in the Greater Los Angeles...

#1944 In San Jose Has It I had an appointment down in Cupertino today, so I went the little bit extra down Stevens Creek to visit Barnes & Noble store #1944. They had a plentiful supply in the Men's Interest section. I wandered throughout the store, but didn't see Classic Style anywhere else...
