In addition, the broadcast would only have been "live" on the east coast and part of the mid west. The rest of the country would have heard a recorded transcription an hour or so later, at which time the announcement that it was only a radio show was being made very clear.
Of course to the...
I would too, but it goes by so fast in the movie, that most people today don't get it. And because he doesn't act stereotypically homosexual, it goes by the vast majority of people who watch the movie these days.

Well that was kind of my point. A modern audience who isn't familiar with movies made during the production code, have a hard time picking up the cues.

Starbucks was started by 3 teachers in Seattle in 1971, and was considered the little guys who were trying to make good coffee. They didn't build a Starbucks outside of Seattle until 1988. The first Starbucks outside of the U.S. was built in 1996 in Tokyo, Japan, and didn't enter the U.K. market...
I've watched The Maltese Falcon with numerous groups of people, including family, friends and several classes full of film students. I have yet to find anyone who figured out from the film alone that Cairo was homosexual. It always has to be pointed out to them, and then they ask, "how do you...
Chandler's novel was actually cobbled together from 4 unrelated short stories he had written for Black Mask Magazine, so its not surprising that the plot is serpentine.

I love All Through The Night. Its basically a screwball comedy with Bogart in it.
One I haven't seen anyone bring up yet is The Barefoot Contessa. Really a wonderful film, beautifully photographed by Jack Cardiff. Bogart and Gardner are great in it!

I find it amusing that people find the plot of The Big Sleep as "incomprehensible". Its really only incomprehensible to modern audience who are used to having things spelled out for them. Complicated, yes. Incomprehensible, no.
To adult audiences of the day, who were use to picking up subtle...
Oh no I don't see the Nazi's ever taking over England with out having to completely destroy it first. You guys just would never have allowed that. But I can see England being starved into making agreements with Hitler. And I can see the Third Reich lasting a good 20 or 30 years before collapsing...
If we want to talk strictly about who paid the highest price in World War 2, the answer is VERY easy. The Soviet Union lost about 11 million soldiers, and around 24 million civilians. Next would be the Chinese who lost around 1.5 million soldiers, and 10 million civilians.
By comparison, the...
I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it. I think its always interesting to see yourself from someone else's perspective. There is a commonly held belief, and I think it is often true, that some of the best "American" films, are made by foreign directors, because they have a unique...
Here in Arizona we have the Titan Missile site that was used in Star Trek: First Contact. Its the only Titan Missile site in the country that is open to the pubic for tours.

To be fair they did show some students getting the right answers. But also to be fair, I went to high school with these same kids (or maybe it was their parents) 35 years ago. They are the same today as they were then.
To be fair one more time, I don't think you can expect a 15 year old to know...
Well to be fair, that movie was made when Starbucks was still perceived as the little coffee shop that made good. Its reputation as a corporate giant didn't really start until it began to expand outside the United States.

The classic example of a New Deal Democrat who became a Republican is Ronald Reagan. His parents were Democrats as was he was from the time he could vote. He was the president of his labor union. (the screen actors guild) He lead the union through the labor disputes with the studios in the 50's...
