This is not entirely true. Yes if they buy the costumes off the rack, modern clothes will cost less. However at the level of a film like True Grit, even if it were set in modern day, the costumes would custom made for each actor. Making a costume from scratch really costs no more if it is a...
The fact of the matter is that when they make a GOOD western, it does well. The recent True Grit made $250 million dollars. Not too bad for a movie that cost $38 million to make. 3:10 to Yuma didn't do quite as well in theaters, making about $70 million, however it did VERY well on video. Open...
I was basing the text on the titles for Forbidden Planet, which looks a lot like that the font I used. And definitely not art deco. I'm not going for the 30's Buck Rogers style. More mid 1950's atomic age, with a little mix of some late 40's style slipping in.

I see what you are saying. I didn't intend to tweak the color much on these shots as they were really just intended to see how the costume photographed in sunlight. I will likely do more tests (on video) and experiment with the look of the final product. I wasn't planning on doing it b&w, as by...
I'll likely go with the look of a mid 50's film, shot on Eastman color film, with prints made by Technicolor. I'm also thinking of framing it for 2.35:1 widescreen, as though it were an early CinemaScope film.

The weren't originally supposed to be recruitment posters. They were really just supposed to be costume test shots. But when I started working on them in Photoshop, I thought, "hey they look like they could be recruitment posters". So there we are.
Hoping to make this into a web series soon...
Well I wasn't thrilled with the first film out of the gate. I think that that point I was pretty tired of sci-fi as Christian allegory, of which the Matrix was the most obvious.
But beyond that, the whole Bullet time effect became old very fast. (In fact it didn't originate in The Matrix as I...
Laserdisc was introduced in 1978. Among the first movies released on the format was Jaws. The last new movie released was Bringing Out The Dead in 2000.
20 years is hardly a blink and you miss it.

The fundamental effect of the Matrix was that for almost 10 years after, every movie made was tinted green. Case in point, the Bourne films, which other wise bare no relationship to The Matrix at all. Yet they are green! Beyond that the Matrix has truly not aged well, and for the most part...
I'm always shocked with people haven't seen Chinatown, which I consider to be one of the best films of the latter half of the 20th century.
It's A Wonderful Life is an excellent film. E.T. in my opinion hasn't held up real well.

Actually most films shot digitally are shot at 24fps just like film, and the new cameras such as the Red Epic that shoot 4k, have latitude and color reproduction that is very film like.
As an example, the recent movie Super 8, was shot full frame 35mm with Panavision anamorphic lenses. However...
The fact of the matter is that all 3 major motion picture film camera companies, Panavision, Arri, and Aaton, have stopped making new 35mm film cameras. No new 35mm film cameras will be made from this point forward. Most rental houses still have collections of film cameras for rent, but most of...
Here is a short video I put together for the Night At in the 40's Dance they had this year at the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.

The images are so striking, because the lighting is so theatrical in many cases. Some almost look like they could be staged movie stills. You don't see that much in this kind of photography of that time.

Thank you very much. We have more videos coming soon, but we are both tied up at the moment with Viva Las Vegas and another project I'm working on called Mantecoza.
