I looked around a bit, and I think the embroidery on that lovely mustard yellow dress might be "shadow stitch" ("skyggesting") but I'm not entirely sure.
We had a great time at the meetup! Hope you can come along next time, Tess. The highlight was when Mary got into a giggling fit over the...
This is the promo picture for the upcoming Coco Chanel biopic which I'm sooo exited about. Audrey Tautou in drag - I'd do her!
Cherrylips, I saw that pic of Edie Beale in BUST!
That's so neat! Is that the same technique they used for beaded eyelashes, as in this famous Man Ray photograph, with a little wax bead at the end of each lash?
Oh, cool! (The blonde is a stunner too, that goes without saying.)
We need a thread about vintage cross-dressing, don't we? Unless there's an old one already ...
Edith: Whoosh, I found one about Girls in Guy's Garb. Miss 1929, I've taken the liberty to post the photos of your friends over there...
Margaret Lockwood, maybe? I don't know that many golden age actresses, so it might just be my imagination ...
And no, I don't think you look like Queen Silvia at all.
I'm Anna too, by the way, so we're namesakes ;)
My first thought was Virginia Woolf, actually.
You have the same beautiful poetic and dreamy eyes.
This is a great thread, I must remember to check it more often. :)
Ooh, thanks for posting!

I don't know where I read this, but I believe these are for women who already had permanent waves put in or women with naturally wavy hair who needed something to coerce the waves into shape. That reminds me ... in German a perm is still called "Dauerwellen" (permanent waves), it could be a...
Those colour names are so fascinating!
I once posted a list with descriptions of fashion colours from the 1950s, one of them being Tête de Nègre, an ashy warm brown. I'll see if I can find that list again.
Miss 1929, wow! You have the best-looking friends in the world. Who is that stunning redhead and how do I join her fan club?
Cherry lips, you know we love you too! :)
Tinseltown, I too have difficulties finding reds that don't look pink.
Here's a couple that work for me (yellowish skintone, brown hair, hazel/green eyes):
MAC You Say Tomato (ltd but could probably be found on ebay) and Lady Danger
Bésame Red Hot Red and Carmine and Merlot
I've found these in a Norwegian webshop so they should be available in Europe! That violet colour is gorgeous ... and they would go so well with my screen name :)
I once watched a documentary on James Dean, and there was an interview with Seinfeld's mom, Liz Sheridan, who was his girlfriend at some point. She said that beat girls really stood out from the crowd because they never wore girdles or curled their hair. Here's a pic of her (the leotard!):
