Who cares why one gets into hat wearing? (that's rhetorical) Amusingly enough, wearing non-Indy hats got me into wearing Indy hats... even though I loved Indy for years before that.
rlk - Not to nit-pick, but you've made a mistake in your definition of the Indy style hat. I only point this...
I am terrible about smiling for pictures, especially if I'm taking my own picture. My Flickr account is brimming with the evidence, but in the spirit of visual learning, here a prime example.... I thought I was smiling!

Let it just be said that, although Indy's hat influences many hat wearers today; the hat wearers prior to 1980 influenced Indy's hat. Therefore, a nice hat is a nice hat, and a reflection of better days in fashion. That is all that should matter. :D
I have this one in black. It's the first modern Stetson I was actually impressed by, mainly for it's originality. It garners many compliments, too. Good show!
That would make a great Goofy costume hat! lol
I've seen those before, and the flaps should be stored over the top of the hat, buttoned. They look quite sporty that way. When your ears are so cold they hurt, though, who cares if you look like a rube.
I'm mainly a level hat wearer, but it's mostly a function of my head shape, I think. Very few hats feel comfortable tilted back on my head. It's airier, but the hat just sort of wobbles on me. But I would do it if it were comfortable. It looks more relaxed and would let my head breathe...
OK, here's the new Hanna. I still have my doubts about it, but I'll let it break in a little. The way the seams are done kind of bug me, though.

I don't have that specific hat, but I do own a Dorfman cotton hat. Unlike the Indy hat, it has eyelet air holes for ventilation, and is probably the exact same material as the Indy. It's useless in cold weather. But in hot weather it's feels heavy and hot. And that's with air holes! Try to...
They tried to talk me into that one, too. Must be a poor seller. I've been hunting for a fine herringbone in grey, but all I ever find are those large pattern gray and whites. :(
I was going to stop at my new Hanna, but the construction is very different than I expected. I'm not sure if...
Hats like that usually sell for about that much in a store, so you might recover the money on ebay. Heck, one trigger-happy fool and you could make a profit!! lol
