The bi-swing design feels great if the jacket is fully zipped, partially zipped or completely undone - it makes no difference. All you'd notice is the extra ease of movement and comfort. Period. :)
PS. And if, after a bit of practice (or not) and you use the acrylic varnish and have a little overlap and it looks a bit "milky" and noticeable, just get a wet Q-Tip and wipe it all off in that area ... and have another run at it.
They'll add a shine if you use a gloss varnish - or a light sheen if you use a satin varnish. A matt varnish gives a completely flat finish.
If you overlap on to the jacket leather itself, it's not the end of the world. You'll just need to put in a little extra time and do a little extra work...
Looks to me as though you could (all) be using a Coastal Command Irvin for the weather that's inbound at your end for Monday ...!!! Force 12 !
Batten down those hatches ....!
Man, that's a beautiful patch, CBI ... and a great design too; it's one I've looked at before but never seen , if you know what I mean. Now I see the bird has a bomb-fin tail, which I'd never noticed - and the silhouette (like a shadow, but not) is a B-17 ....
I look forward to hearing how...
My pleasure, Fanch. In fact, it's been good to see these pictures myself as I'd no real idea of how it looked from behind - and I'd already decided to paint on the back panel and, from eBay, I just recently received an original leaf of an Esquire calendar from September 1952 (for reference) to...
Y'know, I was walking the dog this morning thinking about this jacket of yours, CBI (I know. The things you think about at 5AM!) as I'm still debating whether to paint on the back of my ANJ-3 or not - and was I wondering how you managed to get that really nice, very aged fade on your lettering...
Edward, it was the Irvin patent that was the main factor for me buying my Irvin from them back in '88 (ye olde pre-internet research days).
My brother loved mine so much, he bought one for himself 18 months later ...
And when I got my ELC Irvin in 2006, I showed it to him - and he was wowed...
If money's no object, I'd mail the jacket to Alexander Leathers in Scotland and ask Amanda to have Edith sew them on. Edith put the leather patches on my ANJ-3 (as well as making it) and her work is sublime IMO. She added the leather roundels to my original AAF patches on my B3 too. She's a...
Mark, please PM me and I'll try and help you via my regular email address as I work ... if I can do it (and I use a less-than-ideal method clearly, having learned something new here myself from GHT!) anyone can. Let's try and show everyone what you've got...
My chest is 100cm and my ELC Irvin and B-3 are size 42 - and they're perfect for me. But I'm 173cm tall ....
You don't want these things too snug ... So a 44 sounds like sound advice to me.
Writing here as a computer pigmy, Mark, I entirely sympathize - I have a Mac in my Treatment Room here AND a Microsoft laptop, and I do all my thread composition on the Microsoft laptop - and I don't use the Photobucket option that the more talented folks here all seem to advocate. Maybe one day...
Try the help offered here, Mark - but if still no luck, PM me and I'll try and walk you through it ... I'm a bit of a computer pigmy myself, so I know how it is.
As requested, here you go, Fanch.
I got a pal to take these yesterday after a very cold boat ride out on Stoney Lake, ON - she was just snapping away and said "Give me an action picture!" - so I did my best "Bale the f*ck out NOW!" pose. No prizes for guessing which one it is.
Anyway, I tried...
Absolutely, Capesofwrath. IMO, it's horses-for-courses, as they say.
When I had my first Canadian Winter out here, I had my Aviation Leathercraft Irvin on me when I experienced a wind-chill of -42C for the very first time ... I set off to work knowing it was -42C and naiively wondered how that...
If money's an issue, then Aviation Leathercraft might also be an option. What they lack in true authenticity, they make up for in Tog units - as the jackets are "over-engineered" from the originals and are toasty - handy for a cold morning in Norway - or Canada - and as I used to say, the next...
Great find, Boyo! You scored well, Sir.
I'd give up on the jumping jacks though - it looks perfect and needs no breaking in from where I'm sitting - so I'd say go to the pub with it and have a few pints of something tasty. Break it in that way, if you think it still needs it. Cheers! And enjoy...
Lest we forget.
Thank you for posting ...
It's crazy to me to think that, as a kid growing up in 1970s Great Britain, there were veterans of WWII on every street. The old veterans of WWI were there at the Remembrance Day service in London each November 11th ... now all gone and here are with a...
