I've just returned from 2 weeks in Mexico where it was a delightful 28C every day - we completely missed the ice storm that crippled the power grid in Toronto while we were away and plunged our home in to darkness with no power for 3 days (!). We've returned to -20C at nights ... <shiver> but at...
Great point, Thor - and one I was about to make as I worked my way through this thread after being away from my PC for a few weeks ...
Coming from Yorkshire, I'm a plain-speaking person - and I take people as I find them. Note: as I find them. Not others.
I started work in my industry...
Very interesting; thanks for posting! What a hell hole that must've been to go in to ... I shudder to think.
As a health care provider, I also found it interesting for me to learn of the term "Ambiguous loss" ... very good. Thanks again.
Well, I'm glad you said it out loud, Aerojoe, as that too was my first reaction - that I wouldn't want to wear it downtown in a certain neighbourhood (I imagine me being chased like a chase scene in Benny Hill with me at the front with it on and a flock of fellas behind!) ... but then again...
Interesting comments here, guys.
Now I look at the jacket again, and reading the desert-related comments, now I can see that the colour looks a bit like one of my all-time favourite camouflage colours, namely the "desert pink" colour that the USAF XII/XV B-25s used to sport in the early years...
Eeesh. My first thought was that it looked a bit 1970s sci-fi - like Buck Rogers In The 25th Century.
So I had a quick Google ... and Oh, sweet Jesus, here he is! :eeek:
PS. And I'm so sorry, but yes is the answer to your question ...
Unless they bought a private-purchase A2 (and some did) - but Uncle Sam paid for the jackets and the air crews got them for free - to wear in Harm's Way and I'd still say they were very much paid for and cost a lot!
I agree with ButteMT61 - that these jackets were whizzed out of factories and were thrown at the air crew by a QM - that's how it was. And quality control on the production line wasn't what it is today and anomalies abounded within the designs (as best as I can tell. Others know these things...
To my knowledge, they weren't - and pin-up art being painted on them was even less rare ......
But I think, as long as any patches adds something unique to the jacket, is historically correct and looks the part and is well done, why not?
I have an extra leather patch that was an extra that I'd...
Totally agree. Way cool design.
And that's a very summery looking jacket - but is the L2-B too warm for Summer ? (I had a Buzz L2, and that was great for cool summer mornings - but I know nothing about the later variants).
Very sorry to hear, P51.
I've just had a look and, alternatively, you can buy a copy on DVD via Amazon.com for $12.96 !

As I said, Rocketeer - looking at the link of the side-by-side photos of the original jacket and ELC's version, they look the same to me .... so no, having learnt that some people here can see something I don't makes no difference to me. It wouldn't put me off buying one if I wanted one ....
And I checked my ANJ-3 for them when this point was raised earlier as I hadn't previously noticed any either ... and when checking it over feeling for them, I still couldn't detect any....
Very nice indeed! Not seen this company before.
I'd love a pair of roughout boots and had had my casual eye on a pair of these but by Buzz Ricksons for a while - but I'd unlike the Ricksons, these would seal it for me as they're Made In USA. As time goes by, this just gets more important to me...
That's too bad ... keep an eye out for it in your area as it'll be on at some point in the near future, I'm sure ... and it's well worth a watch.
To me, it's just too bad that so many of the brave men who were there and survived, died in old age feeling bitter and angry about it all. I suspect...
