I've got a Resistol Saddler that is a xDoublex and it is definitely not wool either. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it but it is very nice fur felt hat.
KC,
You are probably right about Ike being in a Resistol. He was not only born in Texas but he spent a lot of time here in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston. He was a member at the San Antonio Country Club where he played golf.
I definitely got that impression from the pictures! You make a fine hat too.
To be honest, I don't wear straws much either, not because I'm tough, I just prefer the feel of a felt hat. What would you consider the best Akubra felt for wearing in hot weather?
This may have already been asked and answered but I can't find it doing a search. If it has I apologize for asking again.
I have a book on Akubra hats and it has a lot of pictures of Australians wearing their Akubras. I noticed that they wear felt hats year around including the hottest part...
"Well, the good guys are in the silverbellys..."
KC, you are right about that. Even today they still are. The Texas Department of Public Safety issues Silverbelly Resistols to the Highway Patrol and the Texas Rangers. However, the Texas Rangers are allowed to wear any western hat they want as...
KC,
Unfortunately it is too small for me or I'd buy it from you. I wear a 3/8 to 1/2.
I guarantee you most of those hats the police and Texas Rangers are wearing in the Oswald picture are Resistols. Back then Stetsons weren't made in Texas but Resistols were. They were made in Garland just...
Doug,
I have one of those too and love it. I actually have several Sunbody hats and they are great because you can shape them yourself. The one in Rick's picture looks like a tighter weave though. Looks like a nice hat.
They have always had the picture with the black ribbon. When I got mine the picture was black but the hat had a tan ribbon. I like the tan better too. Probably the best thing to do is call first to see what color they have now.
I purchased several hats in a package deal recently and the hat below is too small for me. I wear a 7 3/8 long oval. The size tags have all been removed from the hat but I guessing by the way it fits me it is a 7 1/4. There is also "14" written on the back of the sweatband. The opening measures...
Very good point Scotty,
I have a question on another totally different topic. I have seen some Resistols and Stetsons that have a hole punched in the sweatband. It is a larger hole like done with a paper punch for putting paper in a binder. Does this hole mean anything? I was thinking maybe...
