If you own the hat, you may see your marksmanship improve....(weeeeeee haaaw)! Historical items for sure, very nice items in the entire auction. I wonder if this hat was made for her by Stetson or just something that was off the rack?

Considering it's age and the fact that it was used for Halloween and plays, it is in remarkable condition. I noted only a couple of tiny moth nibbles.

Heck, a friend of mine has a two year old custom hat, carefully stored away in it's box, that he was keeping for "special occasions." He took it out last week and found the moths had eaten the crown!:eeek:

So which one of you guys bought it as the auction closed this morning? It went for a lot less than the John Wayne movie hat Heritage sold last year (that was the one that went for $119K), but still for the price it went for one could buy an almost new car or at least a new entry level car! I'm sure it will appreciate in value much better than most new cars though.....

The Heritage web site description said it was bought for her as a gift by a brother-in-law, but it wasn't really stated how often, if ever, she had actually worn it.

BTW, did anyone else notice the size tag is 7 1/8? Seems like a large size for such a petite lady of the era, but maybe that was because she had long and thick hair. The hat looks so pristine that it must not have been worn much.
