I saw an auction the other day for a vintage hat that said something like "No size tag but hat will fit most heads". I asked them to measure the opening and never heard back from them.
I only put it on the side of the leather that touches your head. I use an old but clean white t-shirt that is cut up to protect certain areas. If you put just a little dab of Lexol on the tip of your index finger it is pretty easy to control. Too much and it will run on you.
I use Lexol Leather Conditioner like gtdean48 mentioned. You can buy it at most western wear stores in the boot department. It has worked very well for me. I just put a very small drop on my index finger and slowly rub it in. Continue to do that until the whole sweatband has been rubbed down. I...
Take a look at the Akubra Stylemaster on David Morgan's site. He has it in Acorn which I think is very close to what you are looking for. Below is a link.

Conelrad,
If it only needs to be stretched a hair, buy a hat stretcher, use a tea pot and lightly steam the top side of the brim around where the hat band is located, stretch it slightly and put it on your head. Wear it as long as you can. It will slowly contract to your head size and lose...
That sure looks to me like it has spent some time with a crease in it. Maybe one of the real hatters around here will give you some advice. I'd like to hear it too because I have a couple hats with old crease marks like that.
I have a one of these hat stretchers and it works great for me.

On older silverbelly hats I've noticed that sometimes when they are steamed an old stain will resurface. I have sprinkled a little talcum powder (Baby Powder) on the spot and let it sit over night. The next morning I brush away the powder. Sometimes the powder will absorb whatever caused the...
Hi CONELRAD,
Welcome to the forum. If you will do a search for "hat stretcher" on EBay a bunch of different type stretchers at reasonable prices will come up. My head size is a long oval so the stretcher you posted looks like it wouldn't work too good for me but it looks like a nice stretcher...
Peters Brothers Hats is in Ft. Worth.
I have bought online from Miller and Sunbody and both were great to deal with. I have never seen their actual store though.
JB,
That is great to know. I just looked at their site and they don't list Sliverbelly as an option. Do they call it some other name? Also, do you order yours open crowned? Thanks for your help.
I haven't tried them or anybody else for that matter. I've been trying to find a vintage one. Is yours from Bencraft? If so, what is your opinion of it? It looks great in the picture.
